Active Spoiler Question....

Recommended Posts

Right, I have just bought an active spoiler assembley and switch ect to go on my 1994 n/a supe which has never had one fitted.

When i was fitting the switch in the dash - I noticed a connector just loose in there, weighed the size and shape up to the switch and it fits perfectly :ecstatic:

On the motor on the spoiler, there is a square looking grey connector - I have since found a similare one on the car (drivers side engine bay near top of damper). :ecstatic:

So, my questions are:

1) you reckon all the wiring is already there for it ??

2) where does the active spoiler ecu located and has anyone any pics that might help me ??

3) i thought you had to wire them in - thats what has confused me.

4) anyone got the ecu for the spoiler I can have :eyebrows:

Toyota probably found it was cheaper to order X number of wiring harnesses, rather than x number of this type, x number of this type, and x number of this type. So probably all of J Specs (non VVTi) have the same harness, and all of the UK spec have the same harness.

In other words, yes it probably will have the correct connectors in place already.

Smudger, Did you manage to retrofit your active spoiler?

If you have, I don't suppose you documented it? pics?

I have just got an active spoiler assembly to fit to my 96 RZ-S (which also never had one fitted) and have a couple of questions.

When fitting the motor assembly could you refit the existing front floor pan, (obviously with modification), or will I have to source a replacement.

How did you get the motor into its home by the SMIC, what parts did you have to remove to gain access?

What parts did you have to retire?I'm guessing that a couple of the plastic bits either side of the front air dam will need doctoring at the very least to allow the bar through.

I tried a test fit today, and was trying to offer the motor into position from below, but couldn't get it past the SMIC ducting. I had removed both headlights, and the floor pan, but was trying to leave the bumper in place. Is it possible?

Any pictures would be incredibly helpful.

Unfortunately I'v fitted the switch and the ECU so have only done half the job, ran out of time tonight, so have the irritating warning triangle on display constantly. Am I going to have to live with this until I get the spoiler fitted?

Cheers in advance guys.

Mike

Another quick question about this, can you fit the active spoiler but not have it active. I want something to add abit more definition to my front as I cant really afford a new aftermarket front bumper and would like it perminantly down, not active.

Thanks

AIUI you just set it to 'lowered' - or did you mean fix it in place and not bother with the electrickery bits? I would imagine that is achieveable too but don't know for sure.

The first speed ramp you encounter will be wearing a nice supra spoiler from that day onwards.

The whole idea of it lowering and raising is that at low speeds you are more likely to rip it off - so it retracts under the bumper to live another day.
