Guest Ponty Boy
Hello, driving to work this morning and some warnings lights came on and had no power steering etc, therefore pulled in hard shoulder(which was about a minute later as no hard shoulder on motorway till then). Looked in engine and a belt was shredded, at the front of the engine with a lot of other pulleys. There was a bit of steam coming from the overflow pipe but cooled down in a minute and still plenty of water in there. Had it recovered by Green Flag then. Questions is where and how much to get belt from and what else should we check to see if damaged. Thanks in advance Rhys.
Soonto_HAS_soop
Sounds like your accessory belt has snapped, meaning that all your extras like AC etc would stop working, and also that the fan would have stopped working. Any motor factors will have/can get you a new belt, fit it, it should be fine. Shouldn't of done any damage.
supRo
Try to get the genuine Toyota belt as some people experience squeeling with non Toyota aux/fan/V/accesory belt!
Alex
Get a genuine part from Toyota. Also check all the pulleys carefully as one could be damaged as something caused the belt to destroy itself, just make sure nothing can interfere with it. Digsy
What was your temperature guage doing during the minute you took to stop? Your water pump will have not been turning for this time, so the coolant in the head and block will probably have boiled (hence the steam). Paul Whiffin
A Gates belt will do the job just fine, about half the price from a motor factors!
Jake
I used a Gates belt too. £20 from Halfords, took 24 for them to get it in though.

Guest Ponty Boy
Thanks all for your replies, the garage have got the belt recomended by you lot now. Does anyone have a diagram or a picture of how the belt should be correctly fitted so I can check they have done it right. Cheers, Rhys

Soop Dogg
Check the alignment of the pulleys before you have it fitted. There have been a few stories of the crank pulley 'outer' section coming detached from the rubberon which it sits and starting to move forwards and out of alignment with the other pulleys. Well worth checking this first as it would shred your new belt very quickly after fitting it.
Paul Whiffin
Mine shreaded a belt as the standard pws pulley wasn't running true, I replaced it with a nice new set of Greddy pullies.
