Right my turbo is being removed from my car on Christmas when I return and having it sent off to be completely re-furbed as it has some play in the compressor wheel and I feel its only a matter of time till it blows!

I remember a few of you asking me to keep you in the frame for it so here is that message

Either way Im getting it 100% re-furbed to sell AS NEW... My new turbo is water cooled as well Which I think is something that is SERIOUSLY needed as the BL's tend to have a very short shelf life if used daily and they are not water cooled as well.

CJ and Terry have modified both of their turbos to be oil and water. CJ After he blew his up.

While my old turbo is being refurbed Im going to get it modified to be water cooled as well.. Obviosly at further expense.

Ill be selling it for £850 and it will be like new and modified to be both Oil and Water cooled. Let me know people

EDIT.. Oh yea its a P trim so spools V Fast...

Chris I am responding here as you locked the other thread before I could answer.

I have not modifeid my turbo. Its as I bought it from BL. It uses a Garrett cartridge which are water cooled.

You and CJ are the only two people to have a issue. CJ's did a good few thousand miles and then went soon after an engine rebuild. Generally if a turbo is built wrong they will go very soon after being installed. Also if you do not prime them properly when installing they won't live long.

Anyway, all the other BL turbos are going strong AFAIK.

Hope that clears things up a little.

i think what Terry means is pumping oil through the turbo before you run can be done by removing coilpacks plugs and fuel pump connection and i belive by putting you finger against the blade preventing it from turning it just stops the turbo from running with no oil when you first install it

well i guess that is what he means hahaha Terry can explain it better than me

Shelf life? Well if you leave it on the shelf it'll last for ever :)

Mines been running for a year no probs...but I don't overboost it.

With Oil only cooling it's important to make sure the EGT's have dropped right off before switching off....that's all...ie USE A SODDING TURBO TIMER. :)

Just to clarify that my turbo "went" due to running excessive boost and not due to poor installation.

How excessive CJ?

Also would this turbo last and be fine for a daily drive too?

What would the maximum boost that this would run comfortably with a decent life expectancy?

Cheers,

CJ ran upto 1.9bar.

The compressors are most efficient at 1.4bar.

IanC runs 1.4bar, I'm working up to it, Terry runs 1.4...etc

Thanks Guys you have been very helpful, but I have one more question :faint:

How quick does this spool and what RPM are you at?

Thanks,

Ray

T67's should hit full boost at about 3600-3800 in 5th (1:1 gear) on a 6-speed manual. (with a pull from 2000rpm)

Terry,

I dont really know to be honest.. I have been using mine at 1.4 bar and it has occasianally peaked at 1.5 ..

Im going to have it further tuned and Im not going to be using the Motec to contol it after the new year.. Im getting a new blitz controller.

I think Im going to go for an oil and water cooled turbo next time round.. Possibly even a DBB..

How much shaft play are we talking here ? Some side to side when not running is normal ( not masses) and in and out is a no no. Any sumptoms of oil by-pass? Blade chaffing on housing ect ect ...may give the prospective byer a clue to what dinero its going to cost.:ok:

What the heck would bend the shaft like that after such a short time ?

Back pressure ?

BOV not working properly ?

Just fishing here...Curious to know.

probably excessive heat - oil starvation?

Chris you do know the BL and SP use exactly the same turbo's dont you.

Yes I do..

Both precision turbos...

Im having the oil line checked out and trying to decide what to do next..

Im thinking that it was exessive heat and thats why im going the oil and water cooled route.. Also I was using it at 1.4 bar daily basis which might have been a bit too much ?
