Any mains type electricians here?

I have bought a TIG welder that will run off UK 240 volt single phase 50 hertz AC supply, but on full power can draw up to 50 amps. I want to wire this off the house incoming mains distribution board, to a spur in my worksshop, about 30 feet away. The mains supply from the road is on a 100 amp fuse to the meter. The meter then feeds straight to a fuse switch with an 80 amp fuse in it. If I can get an extra pair of tails into the outlest of this switch fuse i was going to run armoured cable to a 60 amp switch fuse in the workshop, with the welder hard wired into that. Can anyone see a problem with this? I live in the sticks, and although the mains is fused 100 amp the incoming armoured cable form the pole looks quite thin...

What core size armoured do I need to be looking at? BTW, a pic of the welder load plate is at ftp://ftp.chriswilson.tv/mig/mig.jpg

Thanks.

I may be able to help a bit but i am an industrial electrician so things like meters etc i may not be too good on domestic regs, but i am pretty sure you cant do any thing with the mains tails ,thats a job for elec board only

as far as the rest i would use 10mm 3 core swa cable(max current 56a on pvc insulated) then use an isolator to feed welder in garage.

Make sure you use the banjos and earth armour and any metal boxs etc

This whole instalation will need to be inspected by a part p reg electrician to meet current legislation.

hope this helps m8

You have to be Part P qualified to be able to do what you want to do, as now the law states that you are not allowed to add any mains onto the existing distribution block.. also upon completion a certificate has to be done which has all the readings from earth and resistance ect from Live and Neutral... as if anything happens like it catches fire ect.. you will be liable and doubt insurance will pay!!
