DBR
Ok what might seem like a stupid question for some of u experts, but here goes…… Is it normal for the engine to be much noisier than usual on cold start in this freezing weather? It seems to be a bit rattley and squicky until it is warm (I think it’s the cam belt making this high pitch sqeekyness, not sure about rattley-ish noise) ?? Incase you hadn’t noticed im a very technical supra owner??? Rattley-ish + sqeeky noise??? Sorry don’t know much about engines.
Mike
Yeah, I'm with you on this one... mine starts every tme, runs like a dream and is as quiet as a mouse...etc. (touch wood) but yesterday I had the same thing... it bit of a 'chunter' until it warmed up... I put it down to the weather...
JohnA
yes. the colder it is, the larger the tolerances and gaps inside the engine.
supRo
It's probably the V/Auxilary/Fan belt thats making the noise, quite common - get yorself a new Toyota one. Maybe do an oil change with good quality oil - contact 'oilman' on here
DBR
cheers peeps thats put my mind at rest........ oil should be fine only had it changed few hundred miles ago, bet will check out the belt
supRo
The belt starts cracking along the teeth so you won't see it. If it's definitly making the Squeeling sound then it needs replacing. Ro
DBR
the thing is my car is only on 44,000 miles an i thought the belt needed to be changed at 60,000 ?? , is it common for it needing to be changed this early?
Ian W
aren't you thinking of the timing belt DBR? Supro means the fan belt... (just in case you had your wires crossed)
