Muffleman
Hi all, Maybe it's the northerner in me, but £42.50 is a lot for the full Sky package considering I hardly watch it. So I called up today to see about knocking out 'say' movies and sports (movies are generally turd and I've seen about as much snooker as I can handle !) Certainly sir, that makes it £21 a month but you would then need to pay £10 a month for the recording facility on the Sky+. Why ? I've had Sky+ over 12 months so there is no contract, I have the equipment etc. How can they prevent me recording and doing Sky+ stuff ? Do they take away my quad LNB ? Seems strange, maybe they send a command down the phone line to the Sky+ box ? But I dosconnected the phone line AGES ago as it was interfering with something else. Any Sky experts here ? Cheers Matt
Suprachargedtt
Im sorry to say but thats the way it is, all they do is block your card from acessing the sky+ facilities and it doesnt matter if your phoneline is connected or not as its over the air type thing... JohnA
with Sky+ can you record one program while watching another one? (both through the decoder obviously!)
Jive
with Sky+ can you record one program while watching another one? (both through the decoder obviously!) Yes, it's great .. but if you get Sky+ make sure they give you the new box .. which can hold something like 40 or 60 plus hours of recorded programs instead of the 20 odd when I got it
Muffleman
Yup, it is pretty cool and I wouldn't want to be without it. Pausing\rewinding TV is pretty cool too, just wish my 14month old boy hadn't sussed out how to work it
Jake
Yes, John. In fact you can simultaneously record a different channel AND the one you are watching. Or two different channels at the same time if you aren't using the Sky+ at the time
Jake
Also, if you've been watching a program from the start and think "I wish I had recorded this" you can just press the Rec button and it will save it to disk from the start of the show to the end. (as long as you haven't changed channel and back again and as long as the program hasn't been on for more than an hour already)
JohnA
feck, that's interesting. I've got a DVDrecorder with a hard disk, mainly to get rid of the ads beforehand. Record some programs on DVD too. Can you do that with Sky+ ?
Jake
You can't record to DVD directly on your sky+ box but you might be able to connect a DVD recorder to it. The AVForum guys would know for sure, if nobody here does. I'd be interested to know, if you find out.
SkyJawa
with Sky+ can you record one program while watching another one? (both through the decoder obviously!) Yes. Or you can record 2 and watch 1 of the ones your recording, or you can record 2 and watch/play something you've already recorded Sky+ rocks! toyotasuprauk
Sky + is good if you think the movies/sport are worth it and therefore don't have to pay the £10 a month. But I think asking £10 a month for it is takes the piss!
Jake
I think the extra features Sky+ gives is well worth £10/month. However, the price of the channel packages are way too high. I pay £52 a month in total for Sky BTW, if you have 'Multi Room' (Sky+ in one room and regular Sky Digital in another room it's still £10 a month)
KaoriFan
i am also paying the 52 a month ,its a rip off imo. if only you could choose exactly what channels you wish to have. at one time i had to fight with them to not charge me for two subs for a sky+ and a sony sky digibox. the 10 a month for the EPG, is a rip off, it should be free as part of the system. they should take a leaf out of the motorised sat system, that rocks if you are getting a sky+, go for the Sky+ 160, its more versatile as its hard drive is 4 time size of the original sky+ one nasty thing sky did to my Sky+ system, when they updated everything the last time, they reset automatically, the setting where you choose to keep recordings, or overwrite. so you need to check the settings as it wiped out a movie i had not watched, and knew i wanted to keep, once i was low on space >_ most of the subscription channels would be transmitted in macrovision, or they used to be. so you can't directly record to DVD unless you decode them. but you can buy stand alone macrovision decoders.
