Unbelievable company attitude to icy car-park!

I managed to spin the car 90 degrees in my work car-park.

In manual third from about 5mph and only lightly pushing the loud pedal.:help:

I asked about getting the place gritted and was told that, because of some management buy-out thing, we were only being allowed to use the car-park out of the kindness of others. In effect we are squatting in there!

Volvo tomorrow then.

another problem is that if they try to grit it and somebody still falls over then they are at fault, if they dont bother and somebody falls over then they have no come back against them.

This is exactly what I was told when I worked in Huntingdon, they did't want to risk being sued. The way society is now, what a joke.

why would you want to grit it? means you loose the fun of a slidy car park !

I'm always on at our guys at work here to stop gritting our roads in winter time.... then there would be loads of fun to be had whilst driving into and from work !

From what I understand by supplying the use of the car park they are legally have a duty of care. Whether they like or not.

This also means that the "Belongings left here at the owners risk" type of signs have no legal standing. You can't negotiate the law by telling someone beforehand that you won't be abiding to that law. That's how Burglars and the like get away with sueing the poeple they're robbing when they hurt themselves in the process, due to the owners of the property not providing the duty of care when someone is on your property.

As I say that's how I understand it and from my extremely limited legal knowledge that I was taught at College.

Had exactly the same thing at my place last year, the car park was lethal. Took me 5 minutes to tiptoe over to the door without falling over. I asked why it hadn't been gritted and the next day a sign appeared on the gate saying "caution slippery" or something. That was obviously easier than getting off their arses and gritting it!
