Automatic trans problems.

Had a problem with the auto gearbox today i selected drive and went to pull off and it felt like the hand brake was on, i had to put my foot down quite a bit to get it moving and when i got over 15-20mph it went fine. i stopped and engaged reverse and that was fine just drive and 1 and 2 wasnt right. this went on for about 10 min in traffic then it went back to normal. ive been having what i think was a missfire when the second turbo kicked in on full boost but could this be linked with the gearbox. ive got a jap auto tt with about 80,000 miles. any help will be great.-

Quite a few possible issues there.

First I would check your ATF fluid level. do a search and it tells you how to do it properly. you may find it is just very low, if so I would do an urgent drain and refill.

Missfire could be several things, you might be experiencing fuel cut or your plugs may be old or your coil packs my be breaking down.

I know this is an old post, but i seem to be having the same problems as dannyspeed.

Pulling off from standstill it feels like the handbrake is on, once it gets going its fine and changes up and down with no problems, but pulling up to lights/stopping and then starting off again I get the same problem. Have checked the fluid levels and they do seem fine (however this was in the rain and only briefly). Using the car in "manual" mode there are no problems at all.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Only picked the car up yesterday and as I havent had one for a few years, I just thought it was me not being used to it. Everything else is perfect with the car, in fact Im blissfully happy... so if I could get this little niggle sorted i'll be a happy bunny :)

Blimy I can't believe this was nearly 6 years ago I had this problem. What fixed my issue was a auto box service i.e solenoids cleaned & fluid changed ect. That totally cured the problem and it must never have been serviced before, as the gearbox ran better than it ever had done since owning the car.
