TLicense
Well I'm 1 week into working 6 months notice. It's fair to say my enthusiasm for the job has somewhat wained already, however this is nothing compared to what's to come. Basically as I'm going to work for another F1 team, and my current employers are paranoid about me going to my new employers and telling them all their secrets, I'll be spending the last 3 months of my employment in "solitary", This basically entails having to "work" in an office segregated from everybody else. When I say work, however, I won't actually be given any work to do, but will still be expected to be at "work" for my contracted hours. (9-6 Mon-Fri) So basically I'll be spending a lot more time on the forum as I'll have internet access, but that's about it. The idea of this is to deter people from leaving. It does work because I know a few people who have said they would leave but couldn't hack the notice period. Oh the joys and glamour of working in F1. What a crock. Supragal
Seriously? But you already know any secrets you want to take. What a load of rubbish, I'm sure in your contract it states taht you can't do that when you leave, mine does, and they do press charges if you do disclose company secrets/ideas etc. Anyway, look on the bright side- you get to surf the web and you're allowed to! get emailing people. make a website? shame it's not more this side of xmas- coulda done all your shopping!! Timwildman
You would think they'd let you leave early, or at least strike up a deal so that everyone is happy, seems a waste doing nothing for 3 months. Good luck with the new job when it eventually starts.
TLicense
I'm off to Midland F1 Racing (or MFI as I've been told about a million times already!) for a bit of a change of job and a nice pay rise :rich: Instead of developing car bits, I'll be working on technical improvements of the wind tunnel and wind tunnel model in general. Hopefully it will get me away from just being a CAD jockey.
Steve
Never heard of Midland F1 Racing? Where are they based?

What a load of rubbish, I'm sure in your contract it states taht you can't do that when you leave, mine does, and they do press charges if you do disclose company secrets/ideas etc. The problem is that I think F1 and motorsport in general is unique in the way that there's a number of companies all trying to achieve EXACTLY the same goals, and they're pretty much using EXACTLY the same technology down to the point of trying to use EXACTLY the same surfaces for bodywork. Why do you think the cars all look so similar? It's because the industry is so incestuous, people go from team to team taking technology with them. No team would prosecute because they would just be called hypocrits! Look at the guy from Ferrari who went to Toyota. He took a disc with the CAD model of the entire car. Sure he got kicked out of Toyota, but he wasn't prosecuted. Personally I find the whole thing farcical.

Pete
You could do another job and get paid for that whilst not doing the job you ARE being paid for!? In fact, couldn't you just hop between teams every 6 months and never do any work at all!
