Smoke from exhaust in reverse only!

Drove to work today and apart from the small bit of white smoke at start-up I had no smoke at all on the journey. Sitting at lights etc. it was clear.

Get to work and reversing into my space a load of white smoke comes out. Put the car in neutral and it fades. Back into reverse and it smokes.

What's that all about eh?

18 miles. Stop, start. Definitely couldn't see any on the journey. Spent long periods not moving. When I drop my girlfriend off there was no smoke coming out then and I was stationary for about 3-4 minutes!

Come to think of it. I reversed in her car park and there was no smoke then! It only seems to do it when I get to work. I actually can't remember it happening anywhere else.

Could there be something to do with the car park that causes it? It's on a slope, lots of bushes directly behind car when parked, always seems damp.

Driving home tonight I spent the first twenty odd minutes inching along and she was smoking most of the time.

Once we got going and she warmed through she wasn't smoking at rest. Got home and left her running and after about 30 seconds there was white smoke.

I'm gonna believe that it is just steam. Saw dozen of cars, billowing clouds of smoke out their exhausts, as I drove home. It's very bloody cold out so I' going to guess that very hot gases (HINT: don't put you hand too near the exhaust. DOH!) meeting the very cold air creates steam/smoke/white shite.

Just as Eyefi suggested.
