dangerous brain
Batley! Fill up with 99 and then have your car nicked. I'll stick with Optimax rather than riska trip to Batley. As for shopping rage, ASDA does it for me especially the Wakefield one. I seriously feel some primal urge to kill. Weird. Tesco you can pay at the pump so no need to abandon your car to the thieves whilst in the kiosk paying

lockys96
yep, free plug for the supra, amazing how that fuel gives 14hp more on a standard impreza engine. the supra must get at least 20hp more, not that you would attempt to run it on 95 ron, i need to find a tesco which does 99 ron. notice all the 5th gear tests are behind top gears, like the new astra and megane, which were tested on top gear ages ago, but at leat they had some interesting petrol tests which was good

SkyJawa
Just realised that thanks to the power of Sky+ I can rewind and find out the figures! For the Scooby it was optimax 249bhp bp ultimate 248bhp supermarket UL 235bhp Torque was: optimax 258ft/lbs bp ultimate 248ft/lbs supermarket UL 232ft/lbs. I'm sure Pete will confirm but those figs look like hub figs. New Scoob STi (which that was as it had the new face) is a 2.5 litre and has 277ish fly bhp in standard form........... Unless it wasn't run in yet
supRo
I used Tesco 99 ron yesterday for the first time. Feels more responsive and smoother than ultimate/optimax. Optimax definitely deteriorates (spelling?!). I didn't use the supra for a week. When I started her up and went for a run, she was detonating till I put fresh petrol in. I'll keep you guys updated but so far Tesco 99 ron rocks! Ro
SkyJawa
Just spoke to my mate who runs a tuned scooby and a knock link. He's put Tesco 99 in for the first time and said the knocklink has been VERY quiet - much quieter than when on Optimax or other SUL Sounds like good stuff I've used it and couldn't tell the diff between it and Opti, but if its resisting knock more then its all good
monkey76364
Just a bit of info for any one in Maidstone, Tesco larkfield should have 99 Ron by the end of the year / early jan, they are just waiting to get the tanks cleaned up from the 4 star they stoped selling !!! ellis
Very dull one this week - M6 (oops - Top Gear beat them to it), Mercedes R Class (who gives a f@ck!), crash investigation (yawn), nobjockey buying an overpriced Puma at an auction (ffs), dull, dull, dull and Tiff really is an irritating twat! Swift vs moped? Eh? Hardly entertainment chappies! Race a 612 against plane/train . . . oh, you can't can you because Top Gear do all the interesting and fun stuff! So it'll be lawnmower vs skateboard next week then . . .VBH, get off the show and do something else before I lose all respect for you!!
Homer
Yup, major Yawnfest this week. Used to like 5th gear but this new format might spell death for the series.

Conrad
Back to the petrol thingy, anyone know if there's an additive you can add to regular unleaded to boost the octane? Somebody told me this today. If so, is it any good or cost effective?
Homer
Back to the petrol thingy, anyone know if there's an additive you can add to regular unleaded to boost the octane? Somebody told me this today. If so, is it any good or cost effective? There have been a few threads about the in the past. Most 'octane boosters' can only increase the octane rating by a tiny amount - around 0.2 RON. Snake oil.
michael
I used to use Millers CVL 'Turbo' in my MR2, others exist, some like to mix their own, Chris Wilson used to be a fan of tolulene I think.
Homer
Toluene and the like are not exactly off the shelf additives, they're race fuels in their own right. It's a pretty damn expensive way to increase RON for everyday driving. I'd only ever bother with this if you have an aftermarket ECU that can be mapped to run with much higher octane fuel. Plus its so expensive you'd only really want to use it for the occasional drag runs..
