Jake
I think I'm going to buy an engine hoist and load leveller to get the lump out of my vvti. Has anyone got any recommendations for ones suitable for home use? (or ones to avoid) Under £300 if poss. Thanks
Lazarus
I recently bought the CFC100 from machine mart for 150 odd quid, lifts a tonne, seems good but I've only used it on a 4 cylinder motor so far, never tried lifting a supe motor yet and unfortunately no experience with any other cranes so nothing to compare it to, so all I can say is it seems to do well and its about half your budget. Oh and it does seem to have a good reach which is an important thing with a supe I'd have thought.

You're right, the reach is important. Last time I had to take the bumper off to get the hoist far enough into the engine bay. Pain in the arse that was. Thanks for the reminder, I'd forgotten about that.

dangerous brain
Its almost prudent to buy one for you the rate you are going through engines man. Never heard of a run of luck like this since ash willis had the turbo problems.
Chris Wilson
The question you need to ask is "What is the safe lifting weight at X foot reach" That is the gotcha the cheapo ones fail to mention...
Jake
But what safe lifting weight do I require? What does a 2jz engine and auto gearbox weigh?
dangerous brain
Lots. A crane I borrowed to take the engine out of my scrapper wasn't up to the job the arm on it bent as i lifted it clear and it proceeded to drop the ensemble sideways onto and through my fence.
