Jake
I've seen a job advertised that seems right up my street and is local too but in the advert it says: ***Become Security Cleared to SC Level *** Oracle Data Warehousing ETL Tools Business Intelligence Four key individuals are required by this Key UK client to analyse, design and implement data centric elements of large scale information systems and contribute to information management regimes. You will have experience in one or more of the above technologies and be required to provide solutions at a consultative level. UK travel will be involved. In return a good salary is on offer, along with your sponsorship through the security vetting procedure. Does anyone know what this security vetting business involves? Bobbeh
Criminal record checks of you and your family, previous addresses etc. Fairly standard things, I had to go through it over and over for my police related work.
Class One
Yes. There are various levels and SC is the lowest i think. It will usually be: Resident in UK for last 5 or 10 yrs. All addresses for last 10 yrs. Details of immediate family. CRO check and other databases held by Police. Employment history. You wil also have to provide two named persons as referees who would be considered "pillars of the community" like Doctors Teachers or a Company officer and such like who can vouch for you. More is required the higher up you go ie CTC level and above.
Jake
Thanks guys. I'm wondering if my drink driving conviction from 1997 would be a problem. I've got some other previous from over ten years ago but I think they are considered 'spent' now so I don't have to declare them. Right? SteveR
Thanks guys. I'm wondering if my drink driving conviction from 1997 would be a problem. I've got some other previous from over ten years ago but I think they are considered 'spent' now so I don't have to declare them. Right? Declare the lot, if you don't they will know and you'll fail the checks. If they're nothing to worry about (e.g. you didn't murder someone) and if they're not related to the job (e.g. you robbed a bank and this is for a job in a bank) then you'll be fine. SC clearance can take a couple of months (or more) to come through, bear that in mind - they may be able to provide you with work that doesn't require the clerance if you get the job and want to start before the clearance comes through, they may not. There are a few options but one of them is not letting you start until the clearance has come through - you may wish to ask about that. Hope that helps, PM me if you like Jake. colsoop
I still have my sc clearance from my time in the forces, it shouldn't be a problem for you to get, it just takes time as already said. But it is handy that they are willing to meet the costs of it.
chilli
It's just some forms and things to sign, it does take a few weeks to come through, the exact amount of time can vary a lot, depending what they already know and how hard it is for them to find out the rest... You must not have planed to overthrow the government etc lol I don't remember driving convictions being a problem, but declare it all - you need to be above board because the penalty if you get caught telling porkies are far more severe than any job would be worth. It's DV where it starts to get interesting good luck btw if you decide to go for it

Jake
No John. All I know so far is that it's a defense company with vacancies in Waterlooville (where I live), Farnborough and somewhere in Lancs.

Supragal
Only takes a couple of weeks for us to get people cleared, suppose it depends which company you use. Nothing to worry about though unless you are evil
DamanC
declare everything fella, if you dont they WILL find out and it may harm you latter on. Things like your drink driving conviction shouldnt hinder your chance's. When i worked for Essex Police it took 3 or 4 weeks iirc
jaymdee
IIRC, there was a question on mine which went something along the lines of "Are you, or have you ever been, a terrorist planning to overthrow Her Majesties Government?" WTF J
