MARTIN R
I need a second car for daily commuting to work, needs to be reliable and easy on the gas. Anyone know a good place to look at a few? Budget is well, as cheap as possible but not a death trap:p
Ewen
I was thinking of this for the winter, and after a lot of thought Id decided on a Rover 200 / 25 1.4. Wifeys had one for four years now with no probs. Amazingly cheap now, and decent spec. Good engines and comfortable for a second car...looks nice in dark met blue / black / graphite. Just my four penneth worth

chilli
I drive a 1.4 RT Clio. Excellent on petrol, extremely cheap on insurance and i've done 30,000 in the last 2 years. I'd recommend them. You can pick them up in the Friday ad for... £600!

dangerous brain
Mate at work has got a 1.9 tdi golf on an R plate for sale. Its 2.5k but you can keep it a year and sell it for about that. It'll also save you that in fuel in a year lol.
Todd
What do you do with the Supra then? Been toying with this as well for the winter, but by the time I factor in the price of a 2nd hand car, insurance and tax, it just don't add up! If anyone can explain the savings (is there any other than keeping the salt of the Sup!) then please help!

RICHARDA
I drive a 93 Nissan Micra as a second car, cheap as chips to run, tax and insure. Reliable little car, you just look like a granny driving one.
Suprachargedtt
I just managed to pick up a bargain as i need a second car!! Its a Rover 416Sli. ( ) Con's: Its a grandads car with a High milage and little bit of rust, no street cred and you look a complete joke when driving it! Pro's: Its got 10months Mot, Honda engine, new michlins all round and a new GTI exhaust, Imacculate interior with full electrics and sunroof and walnut dash!! Oh and the best bit £200 (oh and my cars off the road for a while, i swapped the insurance over and i got a lovely refund over twice the value of the car!!) toyotasuprauk
If I was going to get a 2nd car I'd want something Jap as anything you spend on repairs on an English or French car is just a waste. Like Todd said I find it difficult in fact impossible to justify a 2nd car personally. If I spend £25 a week on petrol in the Supra in a small car that would be £12. That's about £50 a month saved. I would then have to buy another car perhaps £1000 for a Micra, insurance for it at a guess £350, tax £115 (whatever it is for a small car), MOT £40 provided in passes, and general servicing £120 a year. dangerous brain
Well try £25 a day in fuel and lots of extra miles and the theory starts to work.

Charlotte
Now that makes sense, really not bothered about street cred, just need something throw away cheap:p I used to have a fiesta and it literally ran on air...and i used it every day to work and back. Was white (which offends some people) and was basically falling to bits but probably the most reliable car ever. Cheap to repair too..

toyotasuprauk
If you have a thirsty TT and do more miles than me it does add up I guess. Plus its nice to have another car for when it rains etc or if you have to park in town.

(a part from sups) tt steve I agree...white tends to be cheaper and black/silver are more expensive - just from looking round the garages anyway..people may disagree.
