Knocking on full Lock

Yep as Matt says it could be the adjustment bolts as they need to be torqued to 172lb\ft or something similar.

Also check ball joints and condition of the front wishbone bushes.

Its most probably the lower arm bolts lose, I tightened them up on mine and the noise went away. I then had a 4 wheel alignment done as well to make sure it hadn't gone out of adjustment and it had, worth getting done definately.

If not the engine mounts are apparently a cause of it. Try the lower arm bolts first though, in fact torque all of them while your under there.

Mine has started creaking recently.  Most noticable when creeping and braking at the same time.  Thought it was the brakes, so took the opportunity to replace the pads - turned out they were OK.  The creaking is still there.

I get it when manuvering as well, when not touching the brakes.  Sounds like a creaky door!!!

Had a look on MKIV.COM and it doesn't have those sections of the manual there.

That is exactly what i had - check them quick !!

I left mine for months, lost two front tyres due to the bolts being loose on the lower wishbone.

Had 4 wheel align afterward, then after about 1month creak started again, found the wishbone brace ? that stops it moving backwards had come loose, tightened with a spanner stopped again. THEN few weeks later it has started again...  So torquing up is priority, also put a cut washer in to to help.

Not having the torque settings, I've just been out and had a look.  I checked everything I could get a socket on pretty much (except for those with split pins).

On one side I tightned the nut on the lower front inner mounting, that moved quite easily about 1/8 of a turn.  On the other side the plate where the lower rear inner mount bolts onto the underside of the car, those bolts were nipped up a bit.

Still creaking...  have to try and locate the torque settings and have another go :(

Found it!!!

I couldnt find any loose bolts around the susp arm! Which bolt is normally the culprit?

The ones with the cam adjusters on them. Should be easy to spot as they are at the engine end of the lower wishbone. It's unlikely that you will see that they are lose as they should be torqued to something in the order of 170ft\lb.
