chris aka fonz
Been looking through autotrader and these things are at a price that isnt really out of reach for me . However its one thing initially buying one and another to keep it on the road , anyone have any idea on servicing costs etc . I only use the soop at the wk ends and then if the weathers crap i dont bother , so i cover 4000 - 5000 miles a year max . Oh and im only 24 so i probably wouldnt be able to insure one for a few years anyway. thanks
Todd
You got a spare 35 grand at 24 to spend on a car
Daston
Because of the car it would need a full service history from the dealer each year otherwise it will be worth nothing I suspect you would be paying about £300 per hour labour
Daston
oh if you got that much money dont fancy giving me 5k to part ex my N/A for a TT??
dangerous brain
oh if you got that much money dont fancy giving me 5k to part ex my N/A for a TT?? Why do you need 5 grand to swap your N/A for a TT? N/A's have held their value alot more than TT's have of late. Piehound has a UK model for sale for pennies. Your N/A should sell easily for within a grand of what he is offering that car up for.

SimonB
The problem with Ferraris is that it's very expensive to put miles on them. You have to change the timing belt every 30k miles I think it is, and to do this the engine has to come out, so it will cost at least 3 grand. Even the minor service is going to cost you 1k I would think. Besides, why would you want a car that's slower than a TT?

I wouldnt be buying it for blistering performance , i would go single if i wanted that . Just pure snob value i guess , which sounds wrong i know ! dangerous brain
Its a bit "look at what I've got" type of car really. Not a driving in to get somewhere type of car.
chris aka fonz
True , a car for showing off in . ( i think i might be shallow )
Soonto_HAS_soop
Pretty sure that even for a service they have to drop the rear subframe out with engine and suspension all still attached, so no it's not going to be cheap. I also heard from my mate (who's dad has 2 ferraris) that cambelt change is the best part of £5k!! Makes my £80 cambelt change look like the change that will be down the back of a ferraris seat.. Green Peace
True , a car for showing off in . ( i think i might be shallow ) Follow your dreams. There must be a forum somewhere for these..there was a chap on here that had a 355 a couple of years ago (as well as a Supra lucky bugga) Thing is..I just remember parking my Supra next to a 355 spyder in some big Square in Toulouse once...and...no-one gave the Ferrari a second glance..yet there was a small crowd gathering around my Supra whilst I watched on (with a smug smile) from a distance with a glass of Chateauneuf de pape and a fag he he..class aye!!!! kosmic
Ferraris are hoorendously expensive to run and maintain, however a pecialist near me has been servicing, perairing & running ferrairs for years, they are a ferrari approved service centre and do a lot of the work at very reasonable rate. Virdi ferrari in hayes, this should give you an idea to the cost involved http://www.verdiferrari.biz/servicing.htm

Gazboy
Buying is one thing, but running will crush you, put too many miles on it and you couldn't give it away. EVO had a buying guide last year. Shedloads of advice here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?f=63&h=0 F-chat has just gone down the pan (entire UK section left last month), so lots of tumble weed there. There is an alternative site linked on Pistonheads somewhere. Good luck

Guest Diz
Why buy a Ferrari? What about a classic 911 turbo? (993 or 964 shape?)...
Todd
Why buy a Ferrari? /QUOTE] Because he likes them! With you on the classic 911 though, I'd still like one, one day!
chris aka fonz
Dont get me wrong i like porkas but , There is something about Ferrari , i think they are more exclusive . The prices you would pay for a decent Audi , BMW , Merc , you can pick up something so much more desirable , its just the up keep ! And thats what makes them un affordable
dangerous brain
Its also the reason that they are the status symbol that they are. Anyone can buy a car but affording to actually run something like a lambo or a ferrari is a totally different matter.
Gazboy
For £45-50k, I'd have a 993TT- it'd hand the F355's arse on a plate, and you can tune them to insane levels, go on for ever...

Yeah but if that was the criteria that sort of money pumped into a supra would hand a 993TT its arse on a platter and be a better looking car to boot. Its the badge darling that counts here and porsche doesnt cut as much mustard as ferrari does.
