Undo the five sided cover ( carefully, its got a spring inside). The two kits you have correspond to the contacts on either side of the solenoid. Take the old ones off carefully, noting the order of the bits, then replace with new. Clean the copper ring on the plunger carefully with a file (i used the wifes metal nail file - she was not happy - but it works), then put it all back together.

Phoenix said those two parts may not be enough, I gave them the part numbers and everything. The car is due with them some time this week so lets see what happens.

cos i was told i needed a new starter. but the car would start after a bit of clicking..when i took the starter apart it was obvious what was causing the problem..so if your car clicks when cold then starts the starter is ok imo and its just the contacts..when i took mine apart you could see that one of the contacts was worn out, there was a big groove in the contact plate and the throw part was all dirty.

mine just clicks and wont start at all not matter what I do. The car has 130,000 on it so its highly likely that its shot but will let Phoenix take a look later this week.

Branners, did you get your car fixed with the solution mentioned here? I used it over the weekend and it's worked a treat and my car sounded exactly the same as yours .. except it would fire every now and then.

Just like to say a big thanks to Supraloopy for the solution :respekt:
