Chase
Hi all, The past 2 nights, I've been woken at about 1:30am by my Clifford warning me that the outer proximity area has been triggered. I've looked out both times and seen nothing. The weird thing is is that both nights it's been at about the same time. It's been about 3 and a quarter hours after arming. Thought maybe it was a cat, but could'nt see anything. The car is up a drive with another car between it and the street. I've had a couple of funnies before with the proximity sensor. It's mounted under the panel in front of the gear shift lever, and i've had the panel off a few times to get the dash out. A couple of times back, the led wire was directly above the prox sensor and as soon as I armed the alarm, the prox warning would sound every few seconds. This was cured by making sure the wire was away from the sensor (Cliiford manual warns against having anything metallic directly above the sensor). I'll check it again, but I've started taking the keys to bed with me so when I'm awoken I can re-arm with the external prox enabled. Any ideas anyone. I'll lift the panel again and make sure the wire is away from the sensor, but if it is affecting it why does it take over 3 hours for it to happen? Cheers
Matt Harwood
My first thoughts, you've already covered. Make sure there's nothing metal above the sensor.... Or near by. If it keeps doing it and you're sure there's nothing metalic that could be causing the problem, I'd suggest relocating the sensor to the middle of the roof... It's a bit of agro getting it there, but it's the best place if you have these kind of problems. Good luck
Chase
Cheers Matt, I'm gonna check the wires later to make sure they're not affecting the sensor. I've not really had any problems since I had it installed, so I'm assuming it's just this. Relocating the sensor to the roof sounds like nightmare! By the way, did you manage to get a price for the laptop cable for me in the end? Cheers
Matt Harwood
Didn't I send you a PM? - Obviously not!... Anyway, about £16-17 if I remember rightly Going into the roof isn't as bad as it might seem, you need to drop the sunvisors and interior light. Remove the drivers pilar trim and carefully stretch your arm across... Of course the correct way is removing the entire upper trims and head liner and that IS a bit of a PITA! Chase
Price sounds good Matt, I'll give you a bell about it later in the week. While I'm at it, what sort of price would you be able to do an Alpine CHA-S634 MP3 changer for? Cheers (I can see a spending spree coming on here!) Matt Harwood
£185... In stock - Keep it coming
Paul R
I had this on my MR2. All I had to do was adjust the sensitivity of the sensor slightly - gave it a few tests to make sure it was ok still and everything was fine. Paul.
Chase
Think I've got the sensor sorted now, just moved the wires around a bit. Matt, £185 eh? This seems to be the going rate everywhere for this unit. Is everyone discounting it?
Matt Harwood
RRP is £249 for a brand new unit when through authorised high street dealers, internet dealers/mail order companies can have ways of buying things cheaper... Usually they're ok, but....
Chase
I hear ya Matt, so chances are these retailers may be selling grey import units?
Matt Harwood
You got it... Worse still, some are b-grade units. Don't get me wrong, a grey import unit isn't a huge problem. They all have european warranties, it's just that some components may be slightly different and not available through the UK distributors which means you'd have to wait for parts to come in from abroad... Some repair centres don't like touching them because a few years back the warranty claims were being rejected by one of the Japanese manufacturers.... One the up side, they may never go wrong. Chase
I see what you're saying Matt. I bought my CVA-1000E and MDA-5048 a few back while I was in Australia for less than 900 quid! Only difference between the CVA-1000R and E is RDS, but as you can name the stations this is no big deal. I bought these units in '98 and they're still going strong even after being bounced around in a Mazda for a few years These would have been about 2 grand in the UK (don't think you can even get the 5048 over here) so I took the risk as the savings were worth it. There would probably be no problems with these grey units, but as you can supply an official UK unit for the same price, then I think this is a no-brainer. I'm trying to persuade the missus that she needs to buy me (I mean us ) one of these as an early christmas present. If (when) she relents I'll give you a shout
