Plate laws

AFAIUI it's £30 fine, non endorsable for the 1st offence. Subsequent offences make them think you could be taking the piss ;)

The best thing to do is to carry a front plate and stick it on the dash behind the windscreen, then you can always say that it fell off and you intended to stick it back on ASAP.

My personal take on this is that if its the law to have a front plate, you may as well save yourself the grief of being pulled, and the police maybe finding something else wrong with the car, and just display one like the rest of us. :whip:

Sometimes it's just not worth trying to buck the system, all IMHO, of course ;)

£30 fine + rectification notice (which has to be stamped by an M.O.T. station.

The sizes/angles for number plates are on the DVLA website.

Unfortunately it is a law and you have to either pay the cash everytime or put a plate on.

The cops round my area are particularly strict on this for some reason. Last time I took my front plate off they pulled me within the hour. (I could say the standard rant of "they should be out catching criminals" but a law is a law - even though it is a w@nk one!)

Haven't had a correct size front plate for 2 years, had a smaller plate for a year got 2 £30 fines. Then it fell off as it was held on by sticky pad type. If failed as after the 2nd fine i started switching the plates around.

For the last 8 months or so i've had no front plate on the car but one in the windscreen. Since then i've never been stopped or had a notice put on the car and that includes parking it across the street from the police station in Victoria.

I think that it's been luck that i haven't had any trouble.

The same goes for the silver-on-black plates a few people have done.

Technically, to have the older style plates you need to have a pre-1972 or

something car to put them on, but I think they look good on a black Supra

though. They dont seem to ruin the front end quite as much as a white

standard plate does...
