supRo
Hi, I have done a search on this and some have stated it's just under 2 litres..I was under the impression it's just over 2? I need to know the exact capacity as I will be writing a letter to my local Toyota dealer, I asked for V160 oil which they charged for (and supposedly put in) but used autobox oil instead. I thought I could prove my point if the capacity is over 2 Litres....they only had 2 Litres in stock. The gearbox oil change was done on the same day they smashed my sideskirt......! Keith C
Eh? There is NO WAY WHATSOEVER that they should have put anything but V160 fluid in. Everything else is irrelevant, that is all that should be in that gearbox. I would get down there, ideally in a different car (avoid moving yours until you know) and find out exactly what they put in. If it's anything but V160 or the single listed alternative in the handbook, insist they drain and replace FOC. My local Toyota dealer did this to me, and I ended up calling Toyota GB, who confirmed that only V160 should be used, and they faxed the dealer telling them to sort. The dealer tried to tell me that the auto fluid they have is suitable for the car, and showed me the barrel saying how it is suitable for ZF gearboxes. That's jolly nice, but we have Getrag boxes. Alex
It uses 1.5L's normally. But whatever else it should be V160 only - tell them to change it FOC for wasting your time and endangering the running of your gearbox.
supRo
Thanks Keith, I had my gearbox seals replaced as they were leaking from before Toyota did the Oil change. I had this done at Phoenix and I had suspected Toyota had pulled a fast one. Mark confirmed it wasn't V160 and as I was having the seals replaced, I asked him to replace the oil as they have a good stock of V160 oil. Mark has said he is more than willing to write a letter to confirm this. I will now write a formal letter of complaint to Toyota with a copy to head office. Trading standards have said this is the correct approach and based on what I've told them, they will support me. Hence I need to know exact quantity of fluid required to change gearbox oil (Toyota ordered in just the 2 Litres) and can the wrong fluid cause damage to the gearbox components apart from the seals? Toyota repaired my sideskirt but I wasn't happy...Chips Away will come down on Saturday to tidy it up (paid by Toyota). Toyota offered a free service as compensation....but after all this saga, obviously I don't trust them! Trading standards have also said I have the right to be compensated in other ways. Sorry for the long post. Thanks, Ro
supRo
It's been run on the wrong fluid for about 3 months
Alex
It's the seals that the wrong fluid breaks....so you can blame Toyota for that. You can only buy V160 in 1L cans so you HAVE to buy 2L's to fill it. The internals should be fine.
