How good is standard T/C?

I have read loads of comments reporting that the standard T/C is rubbish....

How effective is it really?

Will it save me if I start fish tailing down the road??

Also, does a light flash up if it is being used???

Thanks!

to be a little more precise than 'its crap'....

the Stock T/C uses a throttle plate in the front of the throttle body, when the Traction ECU senses wheelspin from the ABS sensors, it slams the throttle plate shut....but it waits for 5 seconds or so first.

this is why it is so poor, the slamming shut action has caused a number of accidents, both when losing the back, and also by virtue of it cutting in while pulling out of a junction and cutting all power, leaving you unable to pull away cleanly

Race Logic Traction Control is being offered as a group buy item by Envy (unless you are too late) here http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=47292

The traction control light does come on when it's in use.

It just takes far too much power away which can be dangerous when pulling out infront of other vehicles when you need full control. It's as though the brakes have just come on automatically.

Try experimenting with it on/off in a large car park in the wet.

i had a bit of a "moment" the other day, my RLTC has been away for repair and as yet i havent had the time to put it back on, forgeting this when a beemer tried to pass me whilst cruising at about 50 mph i floored the car in a straight line and got a massive fishtail slide which was just about controlable, the stock trac control never even saw it, IMHO it is not worth a w**k and if i could find a way of removing it without screwing up the gear changes etc it would be drop kicked down the drive:complain:

It's definitely not good, more of a hazard than a help. When I first got the car, it was wet, I was going up a steep hill in 3rd, I gave it a bit of welly (not 100% though) and when the turbos spooled up the back end tried to step out, I let off the throttle a jot and straightened it up, the traction control had done nothing! Another time, when manouvering over gravel in a car park, it came on when I was almost stationary and felt like it had stalled the car for a while, WTF lol

get RLTC, I know I want to when I can!

"Too much, too late" is one way of putting it

i think you've got that spot on John, the stock trac con would probably cut the engine when you were upside down in a ditch, the dash warning light would then come on to tell you you've crashed and then the air bag would explode in your face

Is the RLTC easy to install, or should it be done by a pro?

It's simple enough if you're confident with wiring, instructions are here:

Terminator can supply a custom DAT file, which will greatly improve the operation.

ok so we all know standard T/C is crap, but just lately since BPUing my car properly (and on these colder damper nights) I've noticed that under WOT especially in lower gears, say 3rd that sometimes the T/C light comes on on the dash. Not fully, it flickers green as if it's doing something useful. If I didn't know better I'd be wondering, could it actually be working? or is it just a wonky connection? lol

anyone else noticed this?
