Shovels
The soop has been SORN for a couple of months now, and have now decided to get her back on the road. She's got 1/2 a tank of fuel - will this have degraded much??? Any suggestions on what I should do/watch out for?
ManwithSupra
Well i wouldnt go out in it and give it some welly staright away. Drive normaily or below 4krpm for about 500 miles so the oil can get in the turbos and all around the cams, etc. Go to the garage and fill up with 98 or 99 RON that should sort anything out with fuel degradation. Check the hoses, pipes. Check the Engine bay for Birds or cats Check the Coolent Level Make sure the brake discs are not to corroded (surface rust is ok but flaking rust is a no no). I personally would do the following, I would do an oil change and new filter before starting the engine cos all of the sediment (if there is any) would of settled in the filter and may of clogged it. Charge up the battery and try a day later. Put new plugs in Give it a wash hehehe. Hope its all ok for you bud.
Alex
I'd use some Texaco SUL if you can find it...it's got the best in fuel detergents and after 2months your big ass injectors could be a little clogged. I'd put that in and run through a tank ful of that gentle...keep an eye on your AFR's if you can. oil change maybe - depends when it was last done...just check your levels for starters make sure all the fluid levels are ok and make sure the first trip is of a decent length - as this will charge the battery up. No lighting up that T78 just yet
Pete
Personally I'd do an oil swap so that the new oil is spread nicely all over the top end. Otherwise maybe take the plugs off to prevent it starting, but crank it over a little to get the oil flowing round a little BEFORE starting??? mr keef
I'd turn the key,let her get up to temp drive her carefully, light on the brakes etc, take her on the motorway for 15 mins then mabye put some fresh fuel in her,2 months imho is not a long time,i wouldnt expect anything to be wrong with her, chack tyre pressure. Shovels
Oil & filter were only changed few weeks before taking her off the road, so hopefully she should be OK. Alex - any ideas where I can get some of the Texaco SUL from?

Pete
Oil & filter were only changed few weeks before taking her off the road, so hopefully she should be OK I think the point is that it'll all be sat in your sump. I recently started up my old Rover 100 after about 3 weeks or so - it made a right old noise at the top end. I did an oil change and left it iddling for 15 mins and now it's fine. I'll not leave it so long again. I wouldn't do this to my Supra. Start 'em up regularly to a nice warm tick over. Might not do the exhaust much good, but the engine will be happier. chilli
Personally I'd say oil and petrol would be fine after just 2 months, but the engine will be well dry up top, so disconnect something like the igniton preferably and crank the engine a litle at a time and then long enough that the oil pressure light should go off (in theory). Then reconnect and start her up, take for a nice sympathetic drive using low revs and this will use up most of your petrol anyway (good old supe mpg) and then go fill up with nice new petrol, all will be fine Take it easy on the brakes too until all the surface rust is off them... Chris Wilson
Jeez, it's only sat a few days, I wouldn't worry if it had been sat over a year... In fact i bought an old i950's Wolseley 4 years ago, that had sat in a garage for 15 years, and it started with a new battery on the 15 year old fuel, drove home fine, and had good oil pressure. 2 months is nothing, don't even think about it, just treat it as if you'd gone to get some fags and come back to it! Me being stupid as per usual TBH I did think 500 Miles was a bit much - it would take me ages to rack up those sorts of miles. Nearly done 1/4 tank - still taking it easy

I'm guess I'm just paranoid - no doubt brought about by adverts like Castrol Magnatec that tell you how the first few seconds of starting does all the damage to your car etc.
Syed Shah
The fuel octane may have dropped a little, so top up with some fresh fuel before any high boost runs.
Shovels
Absolutly typical - Within minuetes of getting her back on the road I get a scooby wanting to play - just watched as the scooby sailed past I ran most of the old fuel out, filled her up and then slowly opened her up Oh my god! Not driving her for so long makes it feel soooo much faster!!
chilli
after not driving the supe for a while, when you first open the throttle it's awesome, you can't beat that
