Learning to Ski - help!

Recommended Posts

G/F has just left me to go on a long standing tour of Peru and up the Amazon (feck - she could have just popped down IKEA - i would not have followed!)

In a drunken moment prior to her departure (well actually also at a time when my guard was down! *cough*) I agreed to go get some skiing lessons in an effort to see whether I really do have the balance of a gerbil...

I have never done this before - or felt that I ever wanted to - but it's a real joy of hers so...

What should i do...? How to go about it...? Private / group lesson (Oo-er missus!)

i dont know but get one of your mates down there with video camera and post up mate :D

I done couple skiing lessons and dry ski slopes hurt to fall over on!!

When i learnt i was younger mind you.... I had 3 private lessons to pick up basics and they can tell you exactly where your going wrong, then had 2 group lessons.....then i was a pro  yea right i could barely get going and my version of stopping was throwing myself on the floor!!

Just get another girlfriend mate. It'll work out far cheaper in the long run. Also, nobody ever got a spiral fracture of the tibia by shagging a new girlfriend.

:p

Normally i would agree however not this young lady...besides she would do me a lot more damage than a mere spiral fracture...:)

Thanks guys - think a couple of private lessons with padding...

Then at least I can say I have tried...get my just deserts for being a VERY good boy... and then stick to the apres...sorted!!

Xscape in milton keynes is good for learning on real snow - doesn't hurt (much!) when you fall on your arse! Not too far from you either, just round the M25 then up the M1 for a bit.

Definitely go for snowboarding instead of skiing tho like suprastar said - much cooler, plus there's no potential for 'doing the splits' related injuries! :scare:

They actually do a 'learn to ski/board' in a day course. Quite gruelling, but you only have to go there once and you'll get all the basics to get you started

Borders spend 50% of there time on their arses, and 10% dragging there board along with one foot clipped in, that doesn't look cool. Skiing all the way mate. Eventually get double ended skis and even the tricks look better than anything borders can pull off.........just my opinion but then I'm a skier, boarding wasn't an option when I learn't.

Paul,

I would not really recommend the dry slopes - nothing like the real thing at all. Best off going to the snowdome and have some lessons there.

However there is a dry ski slope in Bracknell at the John Nike Centre next to the coppid beach hotel.

My boy had lessons there and they are very helpful. However having skied and snowboard on dry slopes I would recommend you learn on the proper stuff so go to the snowdome. It hurts less too.

Good luck fella
