RedM
I've been looking at Zen as a broadband provider. Seem to be highly regarded but I've been told that £25 for a 512 connection is very very steep. A collegue at work is paying about £20 for an 8mb connection or something. He explained about how it was all tied in with his phone etc etc but I can't find anything close to that price. So, any suggestions for an unlimited service between 20-25 quid and a fast as possible for the price? Cheers.
Paul -C-
I have 2meg with Zen. I think it's around £30 and I've never had a problem with it for the year I've had it. You also get a free 56k connection, just as a backup. But I've never had to use it.
Wipeout
I'm using IC24, £16.99 for 2meg connection. Downside is a 5gig limit. Seems about the same price for most providers.

Pete
As with all things - you gets what you pays for. All providers vary in quality of service and if something goes wrong, you'd better pray for help on most of the cheap connections or BT. I chose to resell Nildram as their tech bods are great and service is very good. They invest a lot in their infrastructure. It all depends how much you're going to use it, how bad it would be if you lost it, and how techie you are to diagnose things yourself. At home I have blueyonder as I have a complete cable package. Works fine - tech support is crud though. I had to talk to three guys before I got throgh to one that understood what I was telling them was wrong last time. RedM
Michael, Do Plusnet have a download cap? I'm always wary of sites that don't offer any info on that.
michael
They have a "Sustainable User Policy" and I think you can sign up at 2 levels, one has a really high cap, one has a lower one. https://portal.plus.net/support/adsl/sustainable_usage_guide.shtml It's all very relaxed, you'd have to download a fair bit for it to have any impact on you, if you are planning to download a lot of films etc it might kick in but with general use, gaming and the odd download I'm well under the limits. RedM
I'm wanting to download episodes of Lost s02. I'm addicted and really grumpy/fed-up that I've got to wait months to see the new episodes. Plus, it's about time we had broadband. We have an ultra-fast connection at work and it really rams home how crap dial-up is. Also, I have issues with having a cap on downloads. Why can I only have 30g when other companies offer unlimited? imi
Zen are in the process of going unbundles soon, so they will own the entire network end to end. While most of the other providers are relying on BT, with the increased speeds on offer at silly prices the network will probably suffer from huge contention issues, in which Zen and similar will be winners. yet again Mind you, being a zen customer for two connections I am seriously considering moving to a cheaper provider, but as said before, no such thing as getting anything for free...Zen's service is excellent. Jake
I'm looking forward to http://www.bethere.co.uk Oooo, that looks good! Apparently coming soon too! Congratulations. The power of Be will be yours to command. We are currently expecting to enable your exchange in Apr-2006. Be's ludicrously fast broadband service is expanding faster than a lottery winner's circle of friends, but unfortunately we haven't yet reached your house. Do not despair. We will be with you. Simply fill out your details below, and we'll keep you posted as we approach your area. I currently download about 40-50 Gb a month on my 1mbit pipe. It might go up a bit with BE though! wez_p
i've been with Pipex for years and only ever had to ring tech support once as Mcanny recommended, investigate a little on http://www.adslguide.org where you can compare them all in terms of customer satisfaction, speed, etc, based on peoples opinions every month from what i understand, Pipex have the biggest connections to the 'backbone' of the UK's network of the intermaweb and don't complain to people about 'fair use policies' even though they have 'unlimited' usage, unlike some other providers are known to do
