T3, T4?? Help!

Can anybody point me towards a good explanation (with pictures?) of T3, T4, and T04E etc. turbo flanges, so that when I'm looking at turbos on eBay I have some clue if I'd be able to make them fit.

I *think* Arnout's cast manifold has a T4 fitting.

I know how to recognise the 5-bolt T3 inlet flange, and there are adapter plates out there to change that to a v-band..

help?

thanks!

http://www.newbury-house.com/manifolds

Manifold in photos is T3 flange, drawing is of a T4 flange, small template is a T3 overlayed as a comaprison.

I think Arnouts manifold is a T3 flange, I will look in the morning, I have a new one here.

Arnouts is a T4 according to the info he posted up about it, as are pretty much all the Supra manifolds you can buy AFAIK.

I am just amazed, gobsmacked and befuddled as to why they haven't sold like hot cakes. I am buying 3 cast iron Skyline manifolds as I type, for discerning customers ;)

Well I'm definitely thinking of buying one of 'em, just sorting out everything else so I know what I'm doing atm!

Actually not to worry, there isnt a single Supra kit I know of that uses a T3 flange.

Would appreciate all the info on the T3 turbo's you have for another project though.

No idea, I don't profess to be any sort of tuebo expert, i just get Turbo technics or whoever to recommend a stsrt size and go from there. As so few race engines are blown nowadays it's only road car stuff i really do much turbo work with, and most people just buy a kit, ready done. I have a T3 cast manifold for a Skyline RB25 engine and I have been told despite its T3 flange, there's no problem getting turbos with enough airflow to support up to 700 BHP. As I only need 500 tops I didn't ask too many questions. It was Turbo Dynamics who told me this.

The Garrett GT35R has a T3 flange off the shelf from Garrett, although you can also get it with a T4 from places like Precision.

Slight hijack - What are the spooling and power characteristics of the GT35R? Is that a comparable turbo to the T71GTQ?

this is all great info, but it is still near impossible for me to have any idea whether many of the cheap XS-Power et-al eBay turbos are suitable :(

Would knowing the compressor and exhaust-wheel a/r be enough info?

If they are T4 they will fit, but whether they are suitable depends on the specific turbo.

On the Garrett series people are being too generic. You need to know the Trims and AR's.
