Chris Wilson
I need to find out what size RSJ I would need to span 25 feet, supported only at each end on brick piers, to safely lift 650 kilos at it's unsupported mid section. It's to find the required size for a lifting beam in my garage. Cheers.

Chris Wilson
Existing buliding, a 3 car garage, Cavity walls, inside breeze block, outside normal brick. I'd use pad stones, or maybe even build a steel support structure INSIDE the building at one end. Cheers.
peter richards
i think a 8 inch or 200 mmrsj would be enough , with a sliding beam clamp

peter richards
if your prepared to put in a steel frame then the rsj can be welded in
RobSheffield
Chris my parental type person concurred with Mr Richards - approx 8" or 200mm he also offered the following sage words of advice! 'if you plan it for 650KG there will always be something you need to do thats more, so its best to get the biggest you can afford' HTH (his garage sounds similar - 4 car garage, 2 large RSJs, often found pulling large V8s out of cars, and currently holding a Chassis up between two RSJs)
