far
My supra has a boost controller fitted but according to my importer the engine is stock -If the previous Jap owner was running higher boost on stock engine would it have started to mash up my engine ? How can I tell?

far
Hi Dude, Not sure,as I dont have the car until mid july (its on a a boat form Japan) - presumably the boost controller will have historical data settings on what the previous owner was running, whats a safe threshold to run without doing damage>? My girlfriend is calling me to bed. . . . time to forget about the supra (for a while)
Mark Ayling
Yep, depends on what boost they've been running it at - IIRC the stock turbos are OK for 1 bar with the standard IC, maybe a bit higher, but if they've cranked it right up then its a bit dodgy.... far
so how would I tell if this is the case ? i.e. they have been running high boost
tDR
Should be a peak recall function on the controller I'd imagine. Depends if this has been cleared intentionally or accidentally though as to whether you can recall their highest boost run. One thing to remember is the Jap owner will more than likely have been running on 100 RON octane fuel and the best we have here is Shell Optimax at 98RON. Worth getting the fuelling checked when it arrives but other than that, turn the boost down if it's more than stock and do an ECU reset once you've filled up with a tank of Optimax. far
as usual thats great advise thunder - ecu reset ? how is that done ?
tDR
Get the car warmed up (important for later), turn it off, remove the EFI fuse for about a minute and then stick it back in, drive the car and give it some stick - the ECU will be forced to it's factory defaults and from there will 'learn' how best to use the fuel you are using.
