halloween - Anyone seen a real ghost?

I just remembered another experience - not actually seeing a ghost, but doing the "teenage sleepover party had a few ciders lets do the ouija board" thing.

I had read that the glass can subconciously be made to move as if people feel a slight movement their fingers instinctively want to follow it, so you have maybe six or eight little individually un-noticable pushes acting as one big push, and the glass moves without anyone knowing what is causing it.

I decided that I was going to set myself up so that I couldn't contribute to that, so I rested only my fingernail on the glass (so I could not actually push it without my finger slipping, only follow where it was going). Also, I looked down and away from the board so I could not "guess" where it would end up.

Sure enough with a few people participating, the glass started moving about spelling out words and names and the usual stuff. After a few minutes I got sufficiently curious to look up and saw that it was only me and a girl actualyl touching the glass, and she had only her fingernail on it as well. There was no way that either of us could have pushed it anywhere.

As soon as I thought "holy crap - this is actually working" it stopped, and then refused to work again that night. I never did it again after that.

me and a friend where watching tv in my bedroom late one night when we were about 18. i was still living at home at this time and my parents would go away for the weekend and leave the house to me. they had left that morning and we were in the house alone.

we both heard the front door open and close, now this wasn't particulary unusual because my parents would sometimes end up coming home early for some reason or another. we heard footsteps starting up the stairs, without saying anything to each other we hid the bong and continued watching tv. i thought it was unusual that i hadn't heard any voices, no-one talking and no-one had called out. the footsteps continued up the stairs, we both heard this, thinking nothing of it at the time, just expecting my mother to peer around the door and say "eyup lads". the clear, definate footsteps reached the landing. my bedroom door was on the opposite side of the landing, the footseps continued, along the landing to my door where they stopped. we both expectantly looked over at the door when it didn't open immediately, nothing happened. i stared at the door handle but nothing happened, no more noises and no-one entered. my friend looked away from the door to me with a confused expression, was someone having a laugh? i called out "hello" no answer. we started to shit ourselves, high and with vivd imaginations every horror film ever watched began to run though our minds.

we armed ourselves, me the baseball bat, him the machete. we were going to have to open the door and look. but that was the worst thing you could do, investigation kills people, but this couldn't just be left alone, we had both heard it and our minds were not about to let us just forget it. i was shitting myself, still looking at the door handle, nothing happening.

we opened the door, after what seemed like a lifetime of standing there with my heart booming in my head. he opened the door i stood there with the bat aloft ready with my warcry. nothing there, except for a pair of old leather boots facing into the room, one of them steped forward, only joking, there was nothing there at all. we had definately both heard this happen, we had to search the entire house. it was dreadful, room after room, nothing, everything as it should be. all the outside doors were still locked. we kept talking about it for the rest of the night and just couldn't begin to explain it, we had heard the footsteps stop just outside my door.

to this day it's still one of the strangest things that has happend to either of us, because it was so real, it wasn't just a creaky floorboard or the wind. i don't believe in ghosts or any kind of afterlife, so probably a shared hallucination but unlike any other hallucinary experience i have had

Used to work in Dillons in the High Street in Pershore Worcestershire. Was built on part of the old Abbey grounds, used to hear footsteps going over the roof at the back of the store early in morning about 4am when doing papers. There was no access to the roof. One member of staff was tapped on the shoulder turned round and saw a monk as soon as they looked again had gone. They were as white is a sheet so and looked in total shock so believe what they said was genuine.

Also driving woth parents in car in Pershore my Dad moved over to middle of the because of I cyclist I saw it so did my Dad but my Mum said why you move over I said because of the bike, Mum didn't see anything looked behind and nothing. Later was told a cyclist was killed on the road on that day at night time.

SCARY !!!!

I have never seen a Ghost....but....

My Parents who are both gone now told me this story about when they stayed in a hotel!

My oldest Brother was at a school in Devon and my parents and I (i was a baby of one years old) went to visit him one day!

After the visit, they decieded as it was getting late it would be a good idea to check in somewhere.

Everywhere they tried was full or didn't have facilities for babies (me) eventually they were reccomended the only place that was known to always have rooms available..'The Heanton Court Hotel' (clap of thunder/flash of lightning for effect he he)

When they arrived..an old man greeted them at the door despite being almost 2am, almost like he'd been expecting them!

Once inside the man offered to make them a cuppa and it was disgusting apparently (maybe the milk was 200 years old or something)

Before bed, he proceeded to give them a brief tour of this wonderful old Castle/house with history dating back to Henry 8th etc, he removed a huge chest and showed them the Priest hole that lead to the lake (i think) they said they touched the stones on the inside of the Priest hole and were fascintated, the Drawing room where they had their tea was huge and had a fantastic painting of a Church on a hill with the moon behind it, my Dad would always describe this painting as being like real when he told this story!

They were shown upto the bedroom and told that if they put the light on dont be alramed if it dosn't come on straight away as it works on a startamatic system linked to a generator (this was a long time ago btw lol)

During the night whilst all tucked up in bed, My Dad saw a man with a lantern swinging it around my head as if to make sure i was ok (remember i was a baby) and when they both woke, my Mum had dreamt that she had seen the same thing with the man with the lantern!

When they came down to breakfast they were completely confused..the Drawing room had become the Dining room with moden furnishings...but the painting was still there...the kitchen had been modernised overnight too it seemed...a couple appeared and asked if they had a good sleep...and my Mum and Dad told them about the nice old Gentleman? who had seen them to their rooms..and they asked what Gentleman?

They also talked about having seen the priest hole and the couple said 'thats impossible its been cemented up for twenty or so years':looney:

Does anyone know this place?..it may not still be called The Heanton Court Hotel, or The castle Court Hotel on the North Devon Coastline...Apparently It was well known as being haunted!

Would love to go and stay there anyone wish to join me he he....(scooby dooby doooo yoiks):scare:

ive never seen one. but the house we used to live in in Coggeshall was haunted. it was over 700 years old, listed of course. it was the morturay (spelling) for the town. my dad once witnessed an eiry old figure sitting at the end of my sisters bed, said it looked like an old woman, she stood up and disapeared. The town is well known for ghosts and stuff, it even has its own little black book of scary stuff thats gone on.

My point is that you experienced strange goings-on, after partaking of a substance that affects the senses. I'm very cyncical about the occult and all that, and believe that there are frequently ways of explaining away what people have experienced.

Just as I hate calling the universe's creator a 'god' (because it isn't, just a powerful higher dimensional being), I also don't like mentioning a 'soul', but I believe we do have a certain type of energy about us that exists in a different plain and is linked to our physical selves.

Our emotions affect this energy, it's state is changed depending on how scared/safe, happy/sad, tired/hungry/bored etc. we feel at the time. When we die the energy is released (still linked to our world but still existing in it's own 'dimension' [for want of a better word]). The person is dead, no more life, no thoughts, not in existense any more; the energy exists but is no longer sentient, has no knowledge of what or who it is.

When a living being is in the same location as one of these 'balls' of energy, and assuming the living persons 'energy level' is the same as the 'ghosts', the residual image of the dead person is shown, as this is the only possible thing that the living persons energy can show the human body; it has no other 'language' for explaining the interaction that is happening in this other dimension. This is especially true for 'ghosts' that were set in routine, as thier energy levels are more likely to be similar to a living being going about their business.

This theory explains why ghosts tend to dissappear soon after being seen, or at least after the realisation of what is happening occurs - because the energy levels of the living person have changed (towards the 'scared' end of the spectrum).

A lot of other sightings can be explained when you introduce the notion that the human mind/brain is so powerful that it can actually do ANYTHING if it were tought how. So subconsciously if you have faith you can make things happen and then truly believe it to be happening (ouija board).

I had a similar experiance to Eyefi.

Years ago, back down south we lived in a big detached house. Both parents ahs moved out and my sister was hardly ever home. I was alone one night and awoke from sleep after hearing something downstairs.

I grabbed a club I used for security purposes and edged towards the stairs. We had an old house with bare, wooden stairs and bare floors in the hallway. I could definitely hear something moving downstairs.

By this point my heart was beating fast and heavily and I could feel the adrenalin coursing. I knew how to get downstairs without making the boards creak (years of sneaking home late) but as I went to descend I heard the first (bottom) stair creak. Someone was coming up!

I went toward the master bedroom knowing I could hide in an alcove ooposite and catch the person unawares.

Our stairs curved round near the top and three in particular creaked enough to wake the dead. Sure enough footsteps reach the three stairs. If I had wanted I could have leant over the side and tried to brain the person but I knew I'd have a better chance from where I was. They reached the top step and were now less than 15 feet from me.

Then nothing. I waited. No more movement. Only options were to go to the bathroom or my sisters room. Anything else and they'd have passed me.

I waited for ages and heard nothing. I edged out of my hidey hole. Couldn't see anyone in the darkness. Peeked over the stairs, nothing. I turned the landingg light on and headed for the bathroom. I did this first because you could look into without entering and this would mean no-one could move from my sisters room to any othe room without being seen.

Bathroom was empty. Checked sisters room. Empty. Checked and re-checked the bedroms and then went downstairs. No-one at all. However, I din't sleep at all for the rest of the night and, after telling my sister about it, she stayed away more often too.

I set a small PC up in the garage last night with a mike, and it's still recording now while I'm at work :D

I'll post the results up later... If I'm still alive MUHAHAHAHAAAAAA

Probably a couple of ghosts saying:

"You go in there. I went in last time."

"F*ck that. I'm not going in there."

Etc. :)

I need a better microphone :)

Recorded 6.5 hours of audio before the 2gb file limit clobbered it. In all that time we got one relatively loud click. Comparing the click to our chatter at the start of the recording, it was as loud as us talking and moving about. No idea what it could be

take alook here:

EVP is a way to communicate with spirits. Researchers believe that the voices of the dead can be recorded and played back on magnetic audio tape. It is the most modern way to communicate with the spirit world. Some skeptics believe that they are not voices of the dead but radio or CB transmissions.

I'm dying to know whether or not you sat through the full 6.5 hour recording to find that one click...
