sooper-supra
Has anyone got any pictures of a computer in their car? (screen etc)
terribleturner
The Hornet made his own Carputer in his old car. Looks really nice and would love to get something done in mine. Picture 1 Picture 2 Picture 3 Picture 4 Picture
Guest gzaerojon
i was thinking of doing something like this, i'll be watching this one. i was toying with a laptop and managed to remove the screen and make a longer data cable and it worked, i was then going to hide the laptop in the dash somewhere... i had loads of ideas at the time, rollerball style mouse built in the door handle ect
terribleturner
That's the same idea i had Jon but never got as far as you. I thought you could rip out all the laptop internals to put into a smaller box. Also a smaller Hard drive. Then you could have an extrenal Hard drive which you could plug in with all your music and films on. So many ideas but no idea where to begin
ScuttleRX
Would be very handy, especially if running a motec/apexi/etc with all the necessary datalogging and mapping bits and pieces Get autoroute on there and have a good navigation set-up aswell
terribleturner
You could get wireless so as you could check multimap incase you get stuck. Could be interesting if it could be used with ECU or fuelling systems, but i think would probably work out very expensive and confusing. ScuttleRX
Once you've got the software and leads I think things like datalogit are pretty plug and play arent they (not sure with motec gear), could just have it all permantly wired up and hidden away and open it like any other application...could be way off here
ScuttleRX
wireless is a good idea, didnt think of that, doesnt autoroute have a gps option aswell, not sure how easy it is to configure but sure i saw it somewhere in the menus

Pixelfill
You're onto a difficult one there James, that's no ordinary computer. Looks to me like a mini-ITX mainboard with a Via processor, the hard drive is over to the top of the picture (upside down) and the power supply looks like a special Car one, to prevent damage to the computer during cranking or power off. Nice set up. How do you find the Epia boards (is it a nehemia) how does it perform? Mike
SupraStar 3000
Somebody on this forum did a really cool computer install with all kinds of revolutionary ideas. The PC was a Apple Mac Cube with iTunes and wireless internet connection Think Apple even did a article/review on it.

imi
yup. loads of info on carpc.com as well. best way forward is either those mini ITX Motherboards or start with a laptop. Only problem is getting a nice touchscreen to fit into the double din socket in the supra dash. Or even better a nice motorised touchscreen. But for what its worth, will it really be better than an Alpine Headunit, whos gonna watch DVDs while driving, the passenger certainly cant thx to the tilt in the supra dash. So many ideas but no idea where to begin i think i'll have another go soon but take my chances with a better laptop, i've proved the screen works over a longer cable so thats the hard part done. i might get a new laptop and then butcher my vaio as its worth doing, wireless, dvd rw nvidia graphics ect. i could upload music and films from my home pc by parking my supe outside via wireless. also using a video capture device you can display a ps2/xbox ect. auto route can be used with a gps to give a basic sat nav.... soooo many ideas!! i think i'll have to start planning this one again i think:D Oh and the porn!!
