Ian C
OK, I'm assuming that US are the same as UK spec. Mine turned up today (once again evaded import duty thanks to Jay Marks' frugal use of the truth in the value box part of the paperwork ) so I've been comparing them against J-spec once and for all. The differences are: *The plastic end is a different colour. Jap spec is grey, US is lavender (!) *The plastic end has a different plug fitting (arse - something else to buy) *The printed code is different - J spec is 23250-46040, US spec is 23250-46060 *The injector holes are, spookily, a bit bigger on the US spec All but the last can easily be checked without any surgery. THOR Racing
>*The plastic end is a different colour. Jap spec is grey, US is lavender (!) Injectors are coloured to indicate their size and impedance so yes it must be differently coloured or you've wasted your money. >The plastic end has a different plug fitting Ummm. I thought when Darrell and I did the mod they were the same? I'll have to ask Darrell see if he remembers that. >*The printed code is different - J spec is 23250-46040, US spec is 23250-46060 That's likely as the Jap are 440cc and the US 550cc ???? Different parts. I think the only concern is the connector plug. How much is it off by? Can it be modded slightly to fit? Regards Pete
Ian C
Yes, they are glaringly obvious differences I only mention them because I know two other Supra owners who didn't know if they had J-spec or otherwise injectors, and this kind of clears the matter up! Could be handy for anyone else on the BBS who isn't sure and hasn't yet seen any other injectors. The difference between the connector is the guide posts. It's a bast to describe in writing, but I'll try - around the outside of the connector is a couple of bars, used to guide the connector on, and also to key the connectors to the injectors, it seems! The US spec ones have the bars in a different place, so as it stands, the current connector won't fit. Of course, it's only plastic, so I could just cut the things off -Ian
THOR Racing
Ahhhh... Just checked with Darrell..... The US injector plug is slightly different, you'll have to shave the lugs down with a craft knife to get them to fit . Do a little at a time to make a tight fit ,as there is no locking pin to hold them on.... So sorry for the confusion. They will fit with a little.....handywork... The cable used was from Vehicle Wiring Products...... www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk trailer cable 7-core ref TC7 Connector ,7 way ref SP7 Pete Thanks to Darrell for the info. Lee Burley
Ian, Please can you post the exact parts you ordered from J-Marks, and if you dont mind posting the prices, that would be cool. Have you gone for just injectors + ballast resistor, or have you gone for pump etc aswell? Ta.
Ian C
Lee, I didn't order the parts by any part number, just the description of them. Here is a copy of the quote, gives you what I ordered (apart from the fuel rail) and how much they cost. Shipping turned out to be $36, the parts turned up in about ten working days. I didn't get stung for import duty, so the total cost was about £600. "Ian, Here are the prices you had requested. Parts plus shipping (approx $40). No sales tax. Please contact Jeff Watson @ 1-800-327-2087 or [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to order. Refer to QUOTE# 97800. Thank you and have a nice day. 6 * 550cc Fuel injectors retail for $113.78, your price is $85.33 1 * Fuel injector resistor pack retails for $168.19, your price is $126.14 1 * Fuel pump retails for $252.93, your price is $189.70 1 * Dashboard retainer clip retails for $0.46, your price is $0.37 Fuel Rail retails for $112.20, your price is $84.15 Not sure if the injectors will just drop in right. Depends on lower intake and ECU." Those descriptions will get you what you want. I didn't go for the fuel rail, as the injectors are a direct swap and fit the j-spec fuel rail. I haven't sussed the wiring out yet, but Mr. Betts I see has already put me on the right path - what a star -Ian
Guest Martin F
Hey how about the o-rings and insulators ? You really should replace these when you are removing\refitting injectors. Part No. Description 90301-14006 No1 O-ring for fuel injector 90301-17007 No2 O-ring for fuel injector 23291-75010 Insulator, Injector Vibration, Injector Side 23291-76010 Insulator, Injector Vibration, Delivery Pipe Side You will need six of each of the above and i'm sure they won't be to much from your local friendly Toyota dealer, suprised Jeff didn't mention it. IMHO when it comes to fuel systems and the chance of things pissing out everywhere then a few pence for new grommets and insulators is not worth worrying about. Ian C
Ahahahahaaaaa! The new injectors come with new O rings, two big ones on the body of the injector (the vibration ones), and two in a seperate little bag for the tips (the O rings). But yes, you are right, there is no economy in not replacing the non-reusable parts. I should have mentioned that each injector comes with the relevant rubber bits by default. You have also just reminded me that I need to suss out removal of the FSE valve... -Ian
Alex
How about removing the FSE by doing the Fuel Dampner Bypass Mod thingamyjig??
Ian C
I was thinking about using a spanner, meself. What's the mod, what does it do, what are the drawbacks, and why do I need to do it to remove the FSE valve?!? -Ian
Alex
You don't need to do it...I just thought you'd like to. It involves replaceing the hose from the fuel filter to the injector rail with a #6 stainless hose...or 2. Don't know the full MO but MVP sell them have a look under fuel component upgrades on their site. Apparently there is a fuel pressure/flow restricter that this mod bypasses to make sure you get the most out of your fuel system. Very scketchy I know....I asked a question about it recently, so a search and see if that helps
GavinL
Hi.. Alex is talking about removing the fuel pulse dampener. There is a article in the tech section of www.mkiv.com. The US boys seem to be happy with the mod as it seems to extend the capabilities of the stock fuel system just that little bit further. I personally wouldn't bother with the mod unless you have a perticular problem to overcome. Paul Whiffen sorted out a det problem using this mod on the other hand Toyota did put it in there for a reason. regards.....
