Ok here we go..............first post so go easy on me please..............have almost zero experience using forums. I'll keep it short to start with.

I have just purchased my first MKIV and it is fitted with an original Toyota Audio System most likely factory option as its not in the handbook. It combines a TUNER (J-Spec frequencies) a CD with boot loader and a TV! Its a real wizz bit of kit or should that be K.I.T.T. .....get it? But its all in J pan eese!

Looks like its capeable of SAT NAV as well.

Question is can the unit be re-programmed/converted to work in the U.K.?

I know a freq expander will give me the U.K. radio stations but I want English menus and Blue Peter, Newsround and the 6 o'clock news. Only thing I know about the telly is we use PAL and I think the Japaneese have NTSC.

If anyone can shed some light on this matter I would be very grateful.

Geof  :help: :blahblah:

96 Black Aerotop Auto, full leather, AVS 18's otherwise stock.

Welcome to the club and congratulations on your purchase, it's standard practice for people to demand pictures of any new cars so be ready to get asked ;)

The stereo is unlikely to have the ability to be English but I have heard stories of some lucky folks finding simple switches on the back of units to set regions, I suspect this only happens on setups that have been made available in various places though, it's unlikely Toyota used that one outside the UK.

There are lots of people around who know far more about stereos than I do though so someone should be along soon with the real answer :)
