veilsideTT
Hi All Does anyone know why the Supe has different profile tyres for the front and the back? Think Factory fittment is 40's on the front and 45's on the rear. Why did they do this? My reason for asking is that im going onto 19's soon and was going to order 30 profile tyres all round but am worried that im might screw up the geometry!! Thanx Scott
JamesG
The tyres on the back are wider so they need to have a lower profile in order for the circumference to be the same for all tyres. I expect there's loads of reasons why it's desirable to have all your tyres the same circumference, but the one that springs to mind is that it enables your spare tyre to fit front or back. James. Daneway
Scott, make your choice very carefully on those 19s. Have a read my recent post "Wheel and tyre combo" describing the grief I've had when moving to Pacific 19s from my stock 16s ... and I still haven't sorted it. Adam W
Profile isn't measured in millimetres or anything, it's a ratio of the tyre width. ie 255/40 will give a very similar sidewall height to 225/45. I think it's as simple as doing 255 x 0.40 or 225 x 0.45 to get the sidewall height. Going to 19s will likely cause more problems than improvements IMHO, unless you need the space for AP brakes or something, stick with 17's or 18's. Steve W
I think I'm right in saying, the lower the profile (generally) the worse the tram-lining becomes ? ? There's just not enough tyre WALL to offer a 'buffer' between the road and the wheel. A tyre side-wall plays a fairly important role ! [plus... noise and harshness will obviously increase]
veilsideTT
Thanks for the replys guys.
