Keith C
But why are there two? Can one be removed?

Did one the other day that you might know; red one, S14 (early) with HKS manifold, FMIC, bigger injectors, HKS cams, HKS FCON etc. Auto. Owned by Ken Scudder. Apparantly in the 200SX club. Real nice guy and the car went like stink afterwards by all accounts. I think it made around 250~260bhp at the wheels. On a stock-based hybrid T28. And an auto! What's the 2nd sensor for? Class quote Ian. The UK spec measures O2 level before and after the second cat. Remove it entirely and you will get ECU code storages as well as other closed loop gremlins. In fact, even though you would be checking WOT fuelling I wouldn't rule out that a removed O2 sensor could affect the readings in some way, even if it's because of a stored fault code on the fuelling side which may make the ECU revert to a 'safer' side of the map. Not quite limp-home but it may well do something else... But I'm sure your man knows better... Cheers, Nathan TDI PLC
Keith C
Oh I dunno, you all know I get things wrong when people tell me things. I'm gonna go curl up in the corner... Looks like the up the pipe route is the best one anyway then - so that's what I'll do.

BTW make sure your friends analyser is a good one. I had a Lumention one once & it was crap. For an extra 20 quid i can fit cat pipes supplied by myself with an extra O2 sensor flange and blanking plug, allowing easy fitment and removal of an extra O2 sensor for mixture testing. Just needs asking for when ordering.
Keith C
Can I swap an existing pipe...?
Sharpie
Just have it added to your current pipe. I did.
Chris Wilson
Keith, I can upgrade your pipe if you send it me, i have plugs and flanges in stock. I usually fit to the 2nd pipe as it's much easier to remove.
Keith C
Oh cool. Cheers I'll hold off on it at the moment until I get the new IC, cos it's probably not an idea to go nailing it about at WOT without getting that sorted Reminds me, got to get 6 new plugs as well. Bah.
FaithStalker
ok some more dumb questions from me. I checked out my intercooler yesterday (not temp tested cos i aint got a temp gauge) and yes it was pretty hot round and about the intercooler, here are my dumb questions... 1) anyone have any idea what the toyota manuals say about the normal operating temperature of the stock intercoolers? 2) what is the 2nd radiator just to the left (drivers side) of the intercooler (if looking back at the car from the bonnet) 3) is it air-to-air cooled or water in there somewhere? 4) a mate of mine told me that to sometimes cool the intercooler you can shower it with water - would that be better and cheaper than replacing the stock IC ? 5)would decatting increase or decrease or have ZERO affect on the temp of the intercooler ? Ian C
1) I don't think they don't say anything 2) Probably the aircon heat exchanger 3) Air to Air only 4) An intercooler water spray is no substitute for a working intercooler/crutch for a buggered one, but is a useful addon if done correctly 5) Zero effect directly, indirectly though if your turbos boost higher post-decat they will add more heat to the intake charge and the intercooler has to dissipate this so it will feel hotter on the outside -Ian
FaithStalker
Cheers Ian, I've learned something new today problem is it usually pushes something else out of my brain. to quote homer from a Simpsons episode "OH Marge whenever i learn something new it pushes some old stuff out.....Remember that time I went to the beer factory and had all those free samples and learned all about how to make beer - and then on the way back i'd forgotten how to drive ..." FaithStalker
ok, back 2 basics i have a huge big metal thing that takes up the entire front bumper area - i'm assuming that is the intercooler?!?!??!?!? or is it something else? just down and to the left of this (drivers side) there is another one- lot smaller
Guest Martin F
Noooooo the big one is the radiator and tends to get kind of hot or the one in front of that is the AC condensor. It's the smaller one in the drivers side air duct that is the intercooler.
FaithStalker
ahhh f*** me sideways with a train, i thought the big thing was the intercooler, so when you get a FMIC jobbie - does that then go in front of the radiator? the drivers side air duct - yes thats the one i also looked at last night - but not it too greater a detail as i thought it was AirCon or Oil or something ! DOH i'll have a nuver good look on thursday at the Cambridge meet ! see what state its in! something that small costs so much !!!!!!! wow !
