francis
Hi there guys, My friend has just phoned me to say he had a crash in his 1995 Civic 1.3 DX, apparently he went in to the back of a van at around 10mph. Anyway a picture speaks a thousand words so: http://loaded.net/bazcar.jpg The front bumper's pretty knackered, drivers side headlight and side light are out and the bonet is crumpled and can't be opened. It still drives but overheats, although there's no sign of any coolant leaking.. Anyway he only bought the car a few months ago for just under a grand... we're just wondering if this is worth repairing? He's not really concerned about the way the car looks, as long as it's drivable and legal...how would one go about repairing a car like this? Obviously any decent body shop is going to want loads, should we try and source parts from a scrappie? Are there any garages/bodyshops that people know who might be able to sort this out on the cheap? Or alternatively would it be a better idea just to buy another cheap run around? Cheers for your help, Regards, Francis
Robert
by the looks of it mate probably better to buy another car, less hassle and i doubt you could fix that damage for under a grand.
carl0s
I'd throw it away. You'd probably do well to find someone to repair it for £500, then you've got the parts cost.. bonnet, bumper, wing x 2, headlight, radiator, impact bar...................................... what was he doing? Pete
what was he doing? Day dreaming about owning a Supra.
francis
I think the wings are alright... Rallure - you'll probably see him around, he lives in Radnor Place! Stopped at the traffic lights in front of a van, pulled off and then went to change the radio, then went in to the back of the van in front which for some reason had stopped... Ah well, live and learn! The guy in the van didn't seem to be interested in exchanging details, probably wasn't insured, so at least he hasn't got that to worry about. Cheers, Francis

Robert
If he wants i can get my mate at the local garage to come and give him a damage report.
francis
That would be brilliant if you could sort something like that out. He's only TPF&T so there's no chance of doing an insurance claim, but if it could give any idea as to exactly what needs replacing and whether it would be at all worth considering that would be very worth while. I'll send you a PM

Kip
I have owned several Civics and they are pretty sturdy cars - but, that does look like it will be more cost effective to junk it and start again. Sorry to have to say that.
Jspec Germany
Concur. I had a 95 with way too much $ in it and my roommate backed into it with his jeep in the driveway. Real slow, only like 5-6 mph. Did a ton of damage. It's not worth it to fix. Tell him to part it out. He'll make more money than it's worth whole and then can upgrade to something that performs.
