CJ
You have to bear in mind that this isnt a normal dual carriageway away from the town centre. this is the main road out of Swansea and, IIRC, carries a 40 mph limit on certain parts. It is always chock a block with traffic and has pedestrians milling about everywhere too. On certain parts of that road 70 mph is crazy.
Jake
This suggests they were in a 30mph limit : the mini-bus was turning right across Fabian Way, a dual carriageway controlled by a 30mph limit, into the St Thomas district of the city when the BMW hit it at up to 70mph. Matt T
This suggests they were in a 30mph limit : Didnt see that bit, in which case he deserves it. I think the punishment is fair though
peter richards
as i said in the earlier post , thats where i got my speeding fine , literalyforty yards from the point of the accident 30 mph . when its late and not much traffic its hard to stay under 30, when i got the fine i was clocked at 45 only one car in front of me, so i think he got clocked as well . i think the speed these two were doing has detracted slightly from the fact that the mini bus driver still chose to cross the carriage way, and in a bus you can see clearly if there are any cars coming , late at night they obviously had their lights on , i think he should have waited if he wasnt sure how fast they were going. He might have been one of those guys who pull out across one lane, block the traffic and sit there waiting for a gap the other way. A lot of 'professional' drivers seem to do that (Taxi drivers, bus drivers, reps). Always seems very arrogant to me. It's like they're saying "Sod you, I'm not waiting for a gap both ways, you'll have to wait."
peter richards
the way he was coming ,fabian way into swansea there is room for at least three vehicles to wait , and then cross. the actual spot has now been redeveloped , to accomadate the new marina and business quarter on the old docklands site . nightmare getting in and out of st thomas atm

tbourner
trev , try saying that to the parents of the people that got killed . They're emotionally unstable and therefore won't listen to logic at the moment, I don't want to talk to them. But they wouldnt of fallin/hit something if the person hadn't pushed them? So if i throw someone out of a plane and say "i knocked them and they fell, but it was hitting the ground that killed them, nothin to do with me", then i shouldnt face a murder charge? I did say "In that particular case....", this is a different case in which it is clearly premeditated as the consequences of pushing someone towards the vicinity of an open plane door are quite obvious. Milud, I fired a bullet. Do me for illegally discharging a weapon, by all means. But that shopkeeper died of the bullet hitting him, nothing to do with me. I didn't touch him. Ridiculous. -Ian Again, don't be silly, see reply to Kopite above. AIUI, manslaughter is when you didn't intend to kill or do serious injury to someone but you should have known that your reckless actions could well result in seroius harm to someone. And driving like a twat on the public road is clearly reckless and dangerous and deserves some stir if you hurt/kill someone. Yes true, hence I said first off that I agreed with the ruling and the punishments they got are fair enough, I was saying that the relatives are wrong for trying to get them HUGE whacking great life sentences for it - IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!!!
