The car was running 1.4 bar on stock fuel Steve, even sparkplugs forged by Lucifer himself would have struggled . . .

Bad luck JJ, have you tried running it with a new set of plugs in, just in case you have had a phenomenal stroke of luck and the pistons have survived?

cly 2-6 were champions

cly 1 was the std DENSO plug.... (was missing the whole tip)

I fitted 2 of my spare colder graded, smaller gapped to test and it still ran like a bag of shit..

The plus were much worse then mine too..... i had one with half a tip missing and i had two pistons with considerable damage...

Plus were also covered in oil...

Get a compression check done asap....

Jonny, give Leon ( http://www.jpsmotorsport.com ) a phone :(

You could strip down the turbos just to check them too..... I have a spare No2 if needed, and a buggered No1 if you need to send away for hybrids etc....

What plugs etc were gone on fisherjohn's???

My car had HKS 40i plugs in and they had only done approx 1000 miles.

Numbers 1 2 and 3 blown tips right off, porcelain also blown out of

number 1 and 2.

On compression test all ok except number 4 cylinder zero pressure.

Number 4 piston blown the side out.

Exhaust turbine on number 1 turbo blown right off at the shaft.

Head was warped by 7 thou.

Result was rebored block and 87mm HKS pistons fitted.

Head skimmed and 1.6mm MHG fitted.

Turbo Technic Hybrids as big as they can make them can run to 26psi.

S45i HKS plugs now fitted, as you all know they are bloody Denso's renamed.

My car still not running exactly as VSV gone on number 2 turbo system but should now be running by end of week.

I did the engine with a mate who is a mechanic, and turned out to be a nightmare getting the parts, although stripping and assembling the Supra engine is not as difficult as one would think.

Only have to fit new Walbro pump, Fuel Press Reg, New fuel rail and 720cc injectors also AEM system that i have and i am hoping for no more trouble for a while.

Your outlook at present looks bleak i am sorry to say as my car still drove with the above damage was jerky when moving slowly away from standstill, not smoking, but no oil anywhere, no boost press.

Compression test should reveal all.

6 hrs or so work should give the state of the turbos, although manifold nuts are basxxxds.

Hope you are luckier than me, mine now just about completed all the niggly probs after 10 weeks, been on road 2 weeks.

Unlucky Jonny! Looks expensive.

As Adam says, think it's best to get it down to a specialist for what likely looks like a rebuild - either Leon or CW down south. Just don't take it to any garages in Leith! :p

Adam, know if Marc from SS-R is any good with Supra's? Could be a good local option, I know he does a lot of work on Skyline's. He runs 'The Garage' in Wishaw.

We seem to have lost a few engines recently, you guys who lost their engine, where you running octane booster or was it just Super Unleaded or Optimax?

I ran my import at 1.4-1.5bar for a long time but always always had octane booster in it, 2 bottles if I was really pushing it. So just want to check if any of you guys were using octane booster when it happened?

i always ran mine on optimax or SUL before it blew

Id just de-cat'd and fuel cut'd etc.... didnt change the plugs...

developed a misfire, changed the plugs (no5 was slightly buggered)

was fine for a few days...... then the turbo blew to bits......

2nd hand turbos fitted and blown on test run (by garage)

Went to Leon, No5 melted again....

Its surprising that most people still don't use this stuff!

Lovely ;)

AW is right though, its a nasty carginogenic. So no drinking it ;)

10% should do much more good than most little bottles of octane booster, and won't cause any harm to anything. 20% will give you even more octane but I think that's the point where the fuel mixture can start to cause problems with things like the pump. I would stick to 10% unless you have a real need for the extra octane.

Branners, perhaps what is needed from those who have successfully upgraded their cars (no blown engines) is a list of mods in order of doing them.

For example, I haven't really done anything yet, but I have done the brakes - Why, more power will need more stopping.

So for engine mods, then more power will need more cooling, more fuel. Perhaps better cooling and fuel should be the first mods made on power upgrades. That may save some engines.

Simon - I would say the simple answer is, don't mess with the boost unless you have had the fuelling checked on a wideband O2 sensor. An EGT gauge is good as well, but the fuel mixture is absolutely critical on turbo cars and you shouldn't make any changes which could affect it without monitoring the result.

JPS motorsport did a decat (Rod Millen downpipe, lovely bit of kit), then fitted a Blitz BOV, then fitted a blitz nurspec, RLTC and then fitted a HKS s-type intercooler. And that was it really. Standard fuelling, no water injection.

BUT, the mods were done slowly, took about 1.5years to get to the final mod, and always done and checked by Leon at JPS. Plugs and oil changed on a regular basis, Millers Octane Booster (available from torqueIC) always in there, every fill up without fail.

If Tol was easily available I know I would use it, the Millers comes in convenient sealed little bottles you just pour in to the tank and throw the bottle away. No hassle.

There has been an indepth discussion on fuels and OBs on the GTR board, I only go from experience but I know my car ran high boost and quick 1/4 times. BUT, the guy I sold it to had the turbos fail a week after getting it, no way of knowing what killed them but the rest of the engine seems fine.

I only run 1.2bar on my UK spec and I only use SUL or Optimax now so Im not taking quite the same chances anymore.
