Engine conversion.

dude

Recommended Posts

Just thinking about my options dude , after all you know what they say 'there aint no replacement for displacement ' , a 500bhp sbc would be under no strain have no lag and be very cheap to service etc , and im sorry dudes would make ANY 6 cyl turbo sound like a hairdryer.

The engine would fit in very easily , its the bits and pieces that are a pain (cruise/air etc) , like i said a 500bhp sbc can be built very cheap and would suffer NOOOO lag and would easily take a 200+ shot of NOS.

and as for sound , just think TVR on steroids :sly:

dude - this might be anathema to you but a small block wll fit lovely in a Mk3, it's been done several times with excellent results. There is a bellhousing avaiable which will hook it up to the toyota R154 gearbox in the turbo models. I seriously looked into it, you can even make a big block fit if you use a few tricks, I reckoned £500-£1000 in "bits" on top of whatever you spend on the engine. I've decided to go the big turbo route so I can keep using the car as a daily driver (30+mpg thank you very much!) but I'd love to see somone do a nice job of a V8 conversion.

Having said all that, if the MkIV engine lines up in a Mk3, you can surmise that a small block chev should also fit in a MkIV. That would REALLY piss the yanks off as well, they hate people "domesticating" jap cars :D

Adam .... 30 mpg .... what do you do push it ????? im lucky to get 70miles to £20 of petrol , but i am in test mode , i reckon there would be nothing in the mpg between what i mention .

BTW a big block is way to heavy

theres a regulat bloke at york dragstrip bought a v8 engine from scrappers and built a dutton car its in the high 10`s at strip and looks fun.

they dont need loads of electrics to get them running. a mate was going to stick on in his sierra.instead he made a turbo system for his 4x4 non turbo car with extra injectors.

have you gone off the single turbo supra.

and when you going to have a blast at strip with your supra

I got 33mpg out of a week of commuting (over 400 miles on one tank IIRC), bloody boring though, keeping it under 70mph and 3000rpm  With the bigger turbo and fuel system I should still get similar . . . until I floor it :)

The chap in the UK who had a smallblock Mk3 reckoned on about 12-14mpg during normal driving, 10 or less when he pushed it. But who cares about that anyway :D

I drive like a grandad to save money on fuel so I can spend it on making the car go faster . . . :conf: :moo:
