mos
I have just fitted ebc turbogrooves to my N/A. My disc runout was 0.2mm which is in spec and re-furbished my calipers, however i am getting a fluttering noise when driving from my drivers side. When the brakes are applied the noise dissapears (or it may just be getting masked by the grooves noise). What i think it may be is the pad plates that the edge of the pad slides into as one is slightly damaged. There is two types one with a spring to stop the pad moving left or right and one with 2 springs to stop the pad moving left to right and up and down. However my toyota dealer cannot get a number for the type with 2 springs and if i fit the type with 1 then the pad clunks as it moves when braking. Does anybody out there know the numbers for the different type of pad slider guide plates
Steve Cargill
As far as I can tell there is only one type of fitting, you either have 2 pot sliding caliper or 4 pot - no other differences. Could it just be the pads and disks need bedding in. Try an easy 100 or so miles then a few big stops and see if that helps. ( if I'm talking rubbish then ignore me )
Terminator
You should always take it easy on new disks and pads it can take a good 150 -200 miles to get upto full efficiency on the brakes.
eyefi
i thought runout should b no more than 0.05mm
mos
I have 2 pot sliding calipers, also driven over 2000 miles no dvt or judder or even brake pull. The runout was in spec with my manual (must have been 0.02 then). The pad guide plates are on N/A brakes only.
Steve Cargill
Hi Mos, does the noise go away when you come off the power or when you touch the brakes? Are you hearing it from the drivers side because that is the side you are sat on? There ia a MKIV owner in Edinburgh and Glasgow, may be worth getting second pair of ears. I've not had EBC disks, but tried GreenStuff pads and they whre 'different' to say teh leasdt - perhaps tha disks are the same - jusy nosier? mos
Hi steve the noise goes when applying the brakes but no dofference on throttle inputs. The supllying dealer said it was the disc de-gassing but i know enough to realise it cant de-gas without the pedal being pressed. The noise is only drivers side (had my mate drive while i listened). Im pretty sure its the metal piece that the pad goes in as i said before but i cannot get a replacement as my dealer can find the part but it comes up as a duff no and will only let him order the metal piece with one spring
Supra_Al
Mos, although this is no help at pin-pointing your problem, just to say that there are tons of N/A brakes out there 2nd hand,as people have 'up graded' their brakes. I had a problem with mine, sourced some parts through Leon, very reasonable prices and plentyful! Al.

Alex
Is it not just the grooves??? On a previous car I had I went from solid to grooved discs and gained a fluttering noise. I was assured it was just the grooves in the disc disturbing the airflow and giving off the noise. Also CW reffered to the EBC discs as being made of a strange toffee like substance...not good
mos
I think i may have fixed it, late last night i decided to have yet another look and just sat their turning the wheel. On every revolution there was a noise. The caliper had become slightly out of alignment and i had to bend it with a bar (A technical bar of course). Now there is no noise but i need to take the car out to give it a true test
