garetheves
The catch on the drivers side of my bonnet doesnt seem to be working. The bonnet closes but i can partially lift that side about 1cm with my finger, while it is supposedly shut. Also when driving at speeds, this side bounces. Obviously i havent driven at speeds since i noticed it but it is worrying. Had a quick look and the catch seems ok to me (no expert though) but when i close the bonnet i cant hear it "click" like the passenger side. How easy, and expensive, are these things to get hold of? Is it just a simple catch or more complicated? Cheers in advance.

Lucifer
Yes they are adjustable.
merckx
Try pushing in a horizontal screwdriver to check it's operation first.
garetheves
Theres a little round rubber thing near it that acts as a stopper and this is adjustable but its not that bit that i mean. The bit im on about, IIRC, sits in front of the radiator. Theres one just inside each headlight and two corresponding catches on the underside of the bonnet, the right (passenger) one clicks into place but the drivers doesnt. I could be well off with the locations because ive had a few beers and the car is outside.
garetheves
Just been out to have a closer look. When pressed with a screwdriver both catches click securely into a locked position and release when the bonnet release is pulled therefore they both seem to be working ok. What else could be causing my bonnet to bounce when driving and enable me to actually lift the side of the bonnet up without pulling the release handle? Marco
I had the same problem and adjusting the rubber thingies fixed it...
merckx
Check the catch hasn't dropped. Maybe compare it with the one that does work. Try pushing the bonnet down harder, careful you don't dent it.
garetheves
Check the catch hasn't dropped. Maybe compare it with the one that does work. Try pushing the bonnet down harder, careful you don't dent it. Withthe bonnet open i compared both of the catches "open" and then closed them with the screwdriver and they look the same, both secure and the "hole" that catches the bonnet is in the same place. Tried pushing on the bonnet but cant get it to stay down. Will try adjusting the rubber thing again later and see if that helps but any other ideas in case it doesnt?? paul mac
this may sound a daft suggestion gareth but how are you shutting the bonnet, mine was in at lexus/Toyota years ago and their mechanic dropped the bonnet from about 8 to 10", he saw me whince and said thats how they are trained to do it and if you push the bonet down with your fingers YOU will dent it as its so soft (aluminium) and it may not engage the catchs properly
garetheves
I always drop it from approx 6" or so. Once its down and i can see that the drivers side is a bit higher, i give it a little press with hand and it sinks down but quickly rises again when i drive it. bignum
had the same problem on mine, you may have to adjust the actual catch probably up,theres 3 10mm bolts to undo then what i did was lever the catch up with a screw driver then tighten the bolts, worked for me anyway.
