Soonto_HAS_soop
Are the rear light layouts different due to the difference between J-SPec and UK Spec cars or because of a facelift change? i.e. some Supras have the reversing light positioned at the most inner light housing, and some have them between the two red positions?? Not desperately important just noticed it on a picture from http://www.tdi-plc.com and wondered why it was. Ben..
Mark Ayling
Yep, the UK Supras only have one brake/tail light, the J-spec has two.... Not a great pic but you can see the difference, mine (J-spec) is in front: http://www.mpaconsultancy.co.uk/supra/rearlights.jpg
Branners
Holding up a UK spec as usual I dont like the UK spec rear lights and I keep meaning to get some import ones put in and have the twin brake light setup done... JB
Ibrar Jabbar
I have fitted the later J-spec lights to my UK spec, much nicer looking lights IMO.

Steve Gee
Smaller turbos, smaller injectors, smaller brakes, and less power. BUT, at least our J-specs have got the better rear light configs!! Woohoo!
dude
Fastest at the bunfights , j-spec matt harwood , enough said ! John:flame Dev
Scooter
Only by a few hundreths over Robbie and his UK spec and that is being breathed upon as we speak / type. Could be a different ball game next time. On the lights side of things, I'm not fond of the facelift rears but do like the twin brake lights of the j-spec in general. When in queues my old NA used to light up the whole interior of cars behind, and following a few it just looks better 'on the brakes' with 4/5 lights blazing. MONKEYmark
uk has 1 brake 1 foglight i prefer the twin brake lights too, the face lift rears have little squares on the lenses. each to there own but they are all smart looking lights. when you drive behind a supra tha car looks well fat. so is matt the fastest supra over the 1/4 (stock turbo/hybrids) dude when you having a blast in yours? or you sorting out your problem still

Kevin Huntley
Anyone tried replacing the orange indicator lenses with a clear lense on a set of J spec 98> onwards rear lights? I have got my J spec lights off the car at the moment and my UK spec light in for the MOT and I am sorly tempted to have a go! Thanks
Bobbeh
J-Spec lights look boss-eyed.. UK's are watching j00 behind! (Now waiting for Dude to make an appearance.... )

Scooter
Jamie, are you sure the normally unlit pair of rear lights aren't linked to a fog light switch somewhere? my old NA had a switch in the small panel in the lower right footwell to activate a crappy add on fog light, but perhaps someone has done a more profesional job and rigged up one set of rears as fog lights, but the switch would be fairly obvious I would of thought? The Pete Bets conversion is well documented on this site (at the pre forum page) and I think allows all the brake lights to function and also lets a pair function as fog lights when required. this could be what you need. Thanks Kevin, I done the clear indicator lense mod on my previous Supra 94 J-spec lights, which looked neat. I am now on the look out for some scrap 98> J spec lights as I am pretty sure the smoked reverse lense will fit into the indicator housing. Uk reverse lense's are too big to fit in J-spec indicator housings.
Kevin Huntley
How did you get the lights apart? I undid all the screws and removed them but the whole unit seems to be stuck together with some kind of black sealant! I remember somebody talking about sticking them in the oven to help soften this stuff up so they could be leavered apart. I am a bit reluctant to try the oven thing as the lights were about £140 for the pair and I don't want to properly damage them! Ibrar Jabbar
The rear ights are split the same way as you would with the front headlights, Oven job. Don't forget the UK reverse lense won't fit in place of the J-spec indicators.
Kevin Huntley
Any idea, what is the ideal temperature and how long do they need baking for, don't want to cremate thenm! What kind of bulb did you use for the indicator? Originally posted by Ibrar Jabbar The rear ights are split the same way as you would with the front headlights, Oven job. JCresswell
Thanks, ill have a better look today, the fog light switch on the stauke thing only operates the front fogs, but i do have a switch, (small round one) where most people have there fold in mirror button, maybe thats it, ive never tried it as i always thought it was the remains of a JDM alarm system! MMMMMM ......... thanks ill have a go! ...................................... Look at technical later under "found this switch and................":p
JCresswell
update, that switch is linked to the other set of lights, (well one of them,) ill check the bulb of the duff one, maybe he only linked up 1, cool!, I take it you dont nead to bake lights to replace the bulb:p , just undo the black panel inside the boot right? J:stupid:
Kevin Huntley
I think the recomended baking instructions are 150 - 200 deg C for 5 mins. Looks like I will be doing a bit of baking tonight:eek: I will let you now how I get on! I just hope the phone does not ring while I am baking and I tooast them:p
Kevin Huntley
I can now confirm that you can switch the clear fog light lens into the amber indicator position on the newer 98 spec rear lights! What a bast**d of a job though I now have burnt slashed reminents of my former hands! All I need to do now is either get some amber bulbs that fit the stock location or buy some kind of filter or paint to convert the clear bulb to amber, any one got any ideas! Only the brave succeed! Thanks
