edd_t Posted October 21, 2005 Share Posted October 21, 2005 i met a guy on a training course. hes a military IT auditing officer blokey, they can take a smashed up hard disk, put it in a machine, scan it and stuff, and rebuild the data. even off slightly singed disks!!! scary stuff... Dash Rendar Posted October 21, 2005 Share Posted October 21, 2005 Yeah, hard disk data can be surprisingly resilient! Norton's WipeInfo is okay, but not free. There's also BCWipe, which I believe has a functional eval version. Both meet DoD standards, i.e. they write junk data 7 times over the original data.
