AP Brakes & Blitz wheels

Has anyone out there got the AP 6 pot kit fitted under 18" Blitz Z1's with the larger positive offset? Justin Foden tells me someone has them fitted but they needed the caliper "shaved" so it clears the spokes.

I want to be sure the kit will fit before spending any money as I need to buy a new pair of front rims with the larger offset, and the brakes. My car is a 98 TT VVT-i.

Thanks.

Nick

Milling material from calipers is very dodgy. It's easy to weaken them to the point where, in a panic stop, the hydraulic pressure can rupture them. You need to strip the caliper and measure to see how much material is there to remove...

From what I remeber you would have to remove so much material the outer pistons would be in fresh air

I have the Jap spec brakes and they are absolutely f&*king useless, even with uprated pads.

I did originally order the wheels with the larger offset but the wrong ones were sent and by the time I realised it was too late, nothing fits in them, not even UK spec brakes...

Had fitting problem also with my old alloys

May I suggest that you go to HiSpec in Dartford who have a racing 6 pot spec - like mine- that will def fit

With Ferrodo pads these are the biz

Cost is similar to Uk spec set up

Cheers

Nick,

I'm with CW on this. I'm pretty sure that shaving the caliper isn't really viable, and like he also says isn't really an option that I would want to go near anyway.

The wheels are wrong, plain and simple. If you asked for the larger offset then it matters not one jot how long it has been since they were supplied. They were supplied incorrectly and by law you are entitled to the correct part or your money back.

Did you pay on a card? If so, ring them up and cancel the payment. Chargebacks to vendors are rather unpleasant and may make them change their mind on their special 'time limit' policy.

Disgusting tactics on the vendor (whoever it is) if you ask me.

Shaving Calipers is a bodge, pure & simple. The AP's will not fit under 18's AFAIK but I think Stu Baileys old car had 18" Blitz Z1's on the front & that had AP's. I think a guy N1TRO on here now owns the car, so you could ask. But who would want to pay all that money for AP's then bodge them??

With Nathan on the wheel offset. FORCE them to change them.

Sorry Nathan, I meant that the 355mm AP kit won't fit the majority of 18's on the market even those designed for the UK Calipers due to the shear size of the AP Caliper. The Blitz Z1 must be OK with the correct offset.

Nick, with regards to the wheels, if you stated when you ordered that you wanted the wheels for the UK brakes & the "Expert" has supplied the wrong ones, be it his or Blitz' fault, he should take them back in stock, used or not, & replace with the correct fitment FOC. The supplier can then sell on the wrongly supplied wheels to someone who actually wants them & minimise his loss. No fault lies with you, & you should demand this from them or report them & Name & shame. Too much of this seems to be going on at the moment especially with wheels.

Good luck.

Yes, and credit card companies are fairly ruthless. I've had two occasions where we have taken booking deposits over the phone and the customer has not turned up. Even when I was in the right, I still lost the case.

I now have a phone recording machine!

Sorry Thor, my mistake. You are right, I've even seen some 19" that won't fit under the UK brakes either, let alone AP or Brembo!

The Blitz Z3 wheels fit too, if in the correct offset.

Matt: Thats terrible mate. Feel really sorry for you. I must admit I've not had that yet but like you say theres every possiblilty and the odds are always stacked against the trader in a court. Is the recorded phone conversation admissable in court then? Interesting..

Glad it wasn't done here.....

In fact, I'm not too sure where it WAS done....

Shame because Phil always maintained he prefered the Brembos anyway, and they were actually the smaller 332mm kit as that was all that was available back then.

I don't know for certain, but the credit card agency wanted me to supply proff that I had explained what the booking deposit was for and that it was a non-refundable deposit due to special order items or whatever...

I'm assuming that a recorded conversation with the customer would be proof enough.

The first one denied that he'd ever spoken to us, and that we'd fraudulenly used his card details.. Even though I had his name and address and the item I'd ordered was for his car, it still went against me!!!!

I'm so glad I don't specialise in telesales! ;)

I would not count on it Matt! - (Unless you already checked ?)

I'll check up for you but, I'm sure that you have to inform the person that you are recording the conversation, otherwise you can not use it.......unless you are part of the Government etc..

As I said, I'm not exactly sure but, will find out for you.

Have you ever been on the phone (on-hold) and the recorded message sometimes states that all calls are recorded for training purposes etc.......training, yeah right! They want the exact facts to cover their arse when things go wrong.

Sorry to keep it OT, but can you believe calls to our own internal IT department are met with that message!!!!

Thanks for all the replies.

Yes the wheels were ordered from Racelogic via Leon (he got a discount) and sent direct to me. By the time I had the brakes ordered they'd been on there a few months and it was basically a case of if you'd told us when they'd first arrived and didn't use the wheels on the car then an exchange wouldn't a problem, end of story. If I'd known they were the wrong offset I would have sent them straight back but I didn't have a clue at the time. Anyway, there's little point bitching now, the wheels have been on there well over two years now.

Are those Blitz Rims on Stuarts old car definitely 18's?? Does anyone have N1tro's Email address, I'd like to check just to be 100% sure...

Seems odd that Christian had to shave the calipers, AP stipulate on their website that Gewalt rims are needed for clearance, does he still have these?

I'll give HiTech a call too. Thanks...
