London Meet - November

Well, I managed to swing by briefly at 7.30, but there were only a few cars there at that time. Said hello to Simon and Ro (there were a couple of other peeps but I can't remember names. sorry!), and to be honest the RS wasn't looking great compared to the supes.

Had to leave pretty fast cos I was supposed to be at work, so I'm afraid I couldn't meet any more of you. I did see (and hear!) you though as you went the other way past me near the green James!

I thought I was buying my first supe in the next couple of days, but that seems to have fallen through unfortunately, so it might still be a while before I can join the club properly :thumbdown

Mate, If you're in Dunstable let me know if you fancy a drink and a spin in the car maybe?

Cheers,

Ro

Cheers fella, appreciate that - might have to take you up on the offer. I'm after a N/A, so a spin in a TT might not be the best idea though - may tempt me to spend more than I can afford!

Umm, don't suppose you're a technical dude are you? If so, if you wanted to take a spin to Hemel there's a car I'm interested in, but I'm not quite sure if it's a good'un or not..........

By the way, if anyone else near Hemel wants to help me out on this it would be very much appreciated

Not technical but I can get by!

I would be more than happy to check the car out.

Thanks guys, bloody nice blokes on this board! :respekt: I'll get the drinks in if we actually do it :friday:

Gotta go back to work in London till sunday soon, so maybe sometime early next week?

Can't really afford to spend more than about £5000 James, and unfortunately I think Rush will want more than that! Isn't it a TT anyway?

I don't think there's too much wrong with it mechanically (but then again, I know fairly little about car mechanics, so there could be ), there's just a couple of things I'm not sure about: it's got pro drive wheels, and from what I've read on the net they're only sold for fitment to imprezzas, so I don't want it to be eating tyres all the time; and the top of the O/S headlight is raised a couple of mill above the bonnet. The garage reckon it's cos it has an aftermarket front bumper and whoever fitted it may have had to adjust the headlight a bit to get it to fit properly. Just doesn't sound quite right to me.

I suppose I just really need an opinion from someone who knows something about supras on whether they think it's a decent car or not! Didn't really like the attitude of the guy there when I went to have a look at it a few weeks ago, so maybe we can intimidate him into giving me a good deal if we go there with a few quality supes :D

Paul, the car I'm thinking of is here

It's the silver one for £5495 (not planning on paying that much though!) Do you know anything about D McMinn? By the way, I realise that front end is horrid - I'd change it for a standard one if I got it.

Didn't really look at that other one really TBH - apart from the front bumper the one I'm on about has everything I want - nice 18's and OEM skirts and spats. It's also got a nice momo steering wheel and a vacuum guage - not 100% on why that's necessary or how it works (I think it tells you how hard the engine is working and therefore gives an indication of fuel economy. anyone?) but I think it's cool anyway!

Yes, I know I could get the other one and do all that stuff myself, but I'm a very lazy man

They actually said they'd put the standard bumper from that car on the one I want if I wanted it, but I'm not really sure if I trust them to do it properly.

The fact yours came from there gives me some peace of mind though - I take it you've had no problems?

I just don't have a very good feeling about the place though. It's a fresh import, and when I asked him what auction grade it was, he said "probably 3.7 to 4" :conf: WTF? When I went to look at it, it hadn't been converted to UK standards (eg fog light, radio, speedo etc) so it can't have been SVA'd either, and I thought they would have had to do that before it left the docks if they'd imported it themselves?

Just makes me think maybe they got it from the UK auctions, and we all know the quality of the cars that come from there....

I bought mine off a member here. I'm not sure if it was his handy work or the garages, but somehow someone had done some tinkering witht the electrics and wired to postives together :( I may pop up there on my week off an pretend to be a customer looking at it and see what it looks like and sounds.

What about this one??

Yeah, saw that one, but I'm not a massive fan of that rear wing and the bonnet vents!

Don't you think it's a bit over priced for an L reg private sale though?

I was gonna buy Pete's, and I thought that was perfect for me, but I got gazumped at the last minute :swear:

When is your week off then? Maybe I can persuade Ro to come along and we can hide round the corner and watch you in action :D

(Hmmm, reading that last line back it sounds ever so slightly dodgy!)

Experience of mcminn isn't that great some of the cars they get are very good, was there at the weekend looking at the 300 bph MR2 turbo he has. He may get some nice cars but the after sales sucks.

The one with the dodgy nose does have very nice wheels on as liked them when i was there but that nose...... the designer should not be let near a pen or pencil ever again.

Yeah, saw that one, looks like a great car for someone at £4000, especially as it's in black which is my preferred colour, but Newcastle is a little bit too far!

Although, I hear Newcastle has a pretty wild nightlife........

Serously try some friends of mine he has two at the moment,

The quality of the cars ( i have had 5 from him) are superb and the aftersales and servicing well.... second to none mate, Honest, and decent a rarity this day and age.

:hijack:

I'm sorry to hijack the thread, but a new one didn't seem appropriate; I just wanted to apologise for not turning up last Thursday. I said I would, but on the Wednesday night before, whilst I was coming home from work on my bike, a truck decided to turn left from lane two without looking and thus became my new braking device.

As you can see, there wasn't much left of the bike (there are 4 cracks in the frame, 3 of which can't be seen in these pics), and I spent the next few days in hospital wingeing about the bruising (in the pics) as well as my nice new shattered right wrist, which was plated on Tuesday (I'll post the x-ray if I can get a copy).

All in all a bit shit really, but a fair excuse for not turning up I think? :p

Are there any London meets, say around February time?....

Oh god. From the state of the bike you were lucky to get away with just bruising. :help:

I take it the other driver admitted liability? I hope it all gets sorted out with the insurance company sooner rather than later. Not what you need so close to xmas

No worries mate, we will have another meet shortly

Cheers guy's;

You mean apart from the shattered right wrist...

The other guy has admitted liability, but the police also blame him 100% so I'm hoping to get the bike replaced, as well as having a few quid to treat my supe out of this..

The cast comes off in two weeks so that the consultant can x-ray the wrist and check that the op went well, and that the plate is where it should be. As I say, if I can, I'll try to get a copy of it and post it; it should make for a cool pic!
