gregsupra4
Need a set of aftermarket adjustible cam gears for my 1995 J2ZGTE Supra. Thanks. Greg.
Alex
FWIW - Nobody NEEDS them...you can't really gain anything worth the effort. Stock settings are always best...unless you've put something a bit bonkers in.
gregsupra4
Thanks for that Alex, but now that the winter is upon us the old supe is having another make over. She will be sporting 2 x Super T70 turbos, 1000cc injectors, veilside intake manifold, new pistons, rods, crank plus new AEM and lots of other goodies. Just thought that I might see if anybody had a set for sale rather than go through ebay. See Ya. Greg
CJ
I had HKS adjustable and they had worn so badly they stripped the teeth on my newly fitted cam belt. I have heard many people say the same (especially in the USA) and have reverted to stock gears. I also remember talking to CW and he asked a pertinent question. He wondered how often I had adjusted them from the stock position? The answer? Never.
gregsupra4
Hi CJ, Ok if I continue to use the stock cam gears how can I adjust the duration of both the inlet and exhaust without changing the cams themselves ??????

Alex
They arn't T70's as in 70mm Compressors. Like a ITS T-71 is a 71mm Compressor. Different manufacturers use different naming convensions. However they are still enough for over 500Hp each.
RobSheffield
How clever of you to notice that. yeah, thanks for noticing, dont think you quite grasp what i meant, but since i cba to point it out, i will leave it there
Alex
Old style HKS cam gears are best avoided... You need to find Steel wheels with 5-bolt designs...like the JUN ones...but they may be discontinued.
garethr
Just a thought .... A member of the Australian Soarer Club who had problems with the HKS cam gears (snapped belt) had some made using the Toyota gears. It worked out at 185 AUD + 45 AUD deposit per gear (about 80 / 20 of your English pounds). How much would it be over here? http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/292/13004.html . Alex
Just looked at Gareth's link...the dyno looks good after 4000rpm with the inlet cam...but look at what it does to the low down part of the graph. The exhuast timing was overall benefitial without too much compromise. Possibly less agressive changes to the inlet cam will further aide it. CJ
Hi CJ, Ok if I continue to use the stock cam gears how can I adjust the duration of both the inlet and exhaust without changing the cams themselves ?????? I was lucky (if spending more money can be classed as lucky) in that I used uprated cams and hence the reason behind not needing to use adjustable gears. I went with 256 inlet and 264 exhaust. garethr
Hi CJ, Ok if I continue to use the stock cam gears how can I adjust the duration of both the inlet and exhaust without changing the cams themselves ?????? Even with the adjustable gears, you can't change the cam duration. You can change the lobe centres and the overlap.

Guest Terry S
That's what I read...but what I read could have been wrong. From HKS USA site HKS Cam Gears are made completely of anodized Duralumin with nickle plated gear teeth
Sharpie
should be able to tell which type they are Yep, the old ones have green/blue teeth, if that's the right term and the new ones do not.
Digsy
Hi CJ, Ok if I continue to use the stock cam gears how can I adjust the duration of both the inlet and exhaust without changing the cams themselves ?????? You can't change duration with adjustable gears anyway. You can only change the timing. To change duration you need new cams.
