Soonto_HAS_soop
Right, as I'm a complete idiot when it comes to offsets and wheel sizes and tyres, any help on the following would be good please chaps. I'm looking at getting a set of 4 18"x9" alloys wheels for my J-spec twin turbo soop. I was looking at getting 235x40x18 front tryes and 265x35x18 rear tyres. Can anybody see any problems with these wheel and tyre size choices, or will they be ok?? Also I know that the original wheels should have an offset of 50mm, but with these wheels, would it be best to go for a 45 mm offset and what PCD should I be looking for?? Again, some people on here may find this an obviously stupid choice, but if it is, then please tell me why. Also whilst I'm sat here writing this, is it true that J-spec brakes only have 2 pot front calipers and the UK spec had 4 pots?? Of course if I do get them, then I will be selling a set of jap 16" wheels, with bridgestone rubber, any takers?? Aftermarket 5 spoke design. Cheers Guys

Yes, the wheels are all the same size and you can't do that. Well you can but she'll handle like a bitch. You want something like 18x8.5/9 front and 18x9.5/10 rear with suitable tyres on (245/255 front, 275/285 rear) Gaz.
Soonto_HAS_soop
To be honest, I've only recently bought the car, and I'm still on a bit of a budget what with paying out for the it. What If I were to stick 18"x8" on the front with 235 tyres and 18"x9" on the rear and go with the 265 tyres?? It currently has 245 tyres on the rear, and 225 tyres on the front. Thorin
stock wheel widths are 8" and 9.5" I certainly wouldn't go any narrower than that. 235's up front and 265's on the rear would be fine on those widths.
Soonto_HAS_soop
That's one of the problems I have at the moment though. The current aftermarket wheels that are on the car, are only running 225x50x16 upfront and 245x50x16 on the rears, so any increase would make an improvement. Even if I was to put 255x35x18 on the rear 18"x9", wouldn't it?? Was 245 the standard width tyre used on the Supra or was it 255?? Getting confused now, as to why the previous owner would put smaller tyres and wheels on it, but then it did come from Japan, and it did belong to a female!! At least I know it's not been thrashed...... .....Probably!!!

Thorin
Dunno, I always thought the stock tyre widths were 235 and 255 but there seems to be some people that say on 16" wheels it was 225/245. No idea. You may be on a budget but for the small difference between getting a 9" or 9.5" wheel I don't see why it should make a difference. Get 9.5" and then in the future you can fit wider if you wish. Steve W
Was 245 the standard width tyre used on the Supra or was it 255?? These are the 'bog'-standard wheel/tyre sizes.... "A" is Jap-spec (mostly, the 'grey' ones !), "B" is the UK, or, uprated/later Jap. FatS.

Soonto_HAS_soop
..... is that none of the wheels that I interest me in any way, are produced in anything over a 9". Sure, there are plenty of nice wheels that do, but they go for around £1800 a set without tyres, the tyres then cost a minimum of £200 each. Not saying that you aren't right, I'm positive that you are, but I can't afford that sort of cash right now after just buying the car and a few other much needed goodies. My budget is around £1500 for all in, I can upgrade later, just want something that looks nicer than the current crap wheels I have. Even the dealer that I bought it off of, wondered asked me when I was gonna change the wheels for decent ones!!
Steve W
See if you can find a set of UK's ? ? ? They're only 'standard' lookin' but the sizes are perfect.... ........FUNNY ENOUGH:p I was gonna' buy a set of Antera 309's in 18x10 and 18x8, they are only ~£1100 the set and the Tyres aren't TOO dear ! [AND, they go over the UK brakes - MOST important ! ! !] BUT, after my little prang with my 16's on I was DESPERATE for ANY wheels..... someone on HERE let me have a set for ~£300 with fair tyres on ..... Now it's a bit more of a 'THINK' to go for the 18's 'cos the standard 17's are pretty good (alright, not FLASH but.......) FatS.
