Turbos / Boost

Rebuilt my engine and finished last week.

Has 87 mm HKS Pistons, Head skimmed 8k and 1.6mm MHG.

Has Turbo Technic hybrid turbos.

Suspected turbos not spooling up or at least the second one.

Yesterday went to Japfest 210 mile drive.

Car is automatic and car blew up in first place because of detonation / running lean so did not push it too hard but following

noted.

At 80 mph and in drive with overdrive in at 2800 rpm, accelerated

and boost going up to 10/11 psi at 100 mph no spool up from the second turbo and the boost just drops away completely instantly.

Before i remove the turbos for examination is there any simple ideas anyone may have or to try.

Would the turbos or second turbo have broken when car first started, it was left idling for approx 20 mins.

I am thinking either the second turbo broke when the car started,

or i have a hose connected incorrectly or another problem with wastegate malfunction after rebuild.

Does the engine manual from toyota show all the correct hos posns etc.

After much expense and frustration i am extermely worried.

Hi again John - we met Yesterday again

Sounds like a typical hose problem - check out the technical section search under boost hoses etc

Had the same happen - check all the small hoses to the actuator under the stock position for BOV - down by the fan

These blow off easily - and with the amount of work done to the engine very easy to miss

Bring it up to Bracknell - there will be a few people there to check it out no doubt

Cheers

Paul
