jackso11
What are the standard size speakers through-out the supra? I am looking to swap them all for a better component set. Anyone know all the sizes?
Matt T
6.5" iirc, they might not be at the front but make up some templates and they'll fit easy
merckx
Easy to replace the ones at the back, prise off the cover and have a look. The front ones are much smaller, to fit bigger ones you'll have to remove the plastic housing and make a new bracket or fit them to the door card. You have to remove the door card to get access, don't prise off the cover unless you want to break the fixings.
jackso11
make templates for the front....you mean they are bigger than 6.5" at the front? I heard there are speaker mounts under the back seats...is this right? Sorry if I sound lame not knowing, or checking myself ....I haven't got my supra yet! picking it up on thursday
merckx
The front ones are crap, about 4". Most of make up a bracket from MDF to hold the speaker, it's a little fiddly getting it just right to seal the door and also get the speaker just in the right place. The rear speakers are in the side panels in the rear, some cars have a woofer located just behind the rear seats. I made my brackets similar to the shape that Nic suggested in this thread. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=35019&highlight=speaker+bracket
VIL
Sorry for the quick hijack of the thread! One question. Can you just fit aftermarket 4" speakers in the fronts without having to do any bracket mods? Having spoken to someone else whos has put 6" in the front they said you would never find speakers to directly replace the existing ones? I find this hard to believe as theres loads of choice these days even in the 4" range?

I find this hard to believe as theres loads of choice these days even in the 4" range? The slight problem is that the stock ones have 3 screw holes, but all after market ones have 4 holes. Just use self tapping screws and screw the speaker directly into the speaker bracket. It isn't really a problem.
supRo
The standard fronts are 4 " and rears 6". Most people use 6.5" for the fronts (component) and 6.5" rears when they upgrade. The 6.5" rears will go in fairly easily. If you decide to go for larger than 4" for the front, you'll have to make up a bracket/mount - a template is available on this ice thread. some useful info....http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=49709
supRo
Although the rears are easy to access as said above, sometimes loctite is used like it was on mine! Bit more fiddly to do if that is the case but no biggie.
Ceptik
Note: If/When you make the speaker templates for the front be sure to try out the speaker with the door card on and test the window motions. Sometimes you'll get a speaker component which is considerably deeper than others which the window can catch on when rolled down. If this happens then you'll need to make up the speaker spacers (also included in the template diagram).
