HunterJ
Hi Folks, Firstly, I've checked out the other tapping noises mentioned on the board, but none seem to match (if I've missed a post, please accept my appologies, but please point me in its direction ). I was going through the KFC drive through yesterday and as I was moving, I had the window down, I heard a strange tapping sound coming from around my drivers side rear quarter. It sounds very metallicy (kinda like I was dragging a chain). It seems to be related to speed. It can be heard quite clearly when driving slowly (pulling away from junctions etc) as long as the window is down. Both rear wheel bearings have been replaced recently, and everything seems tight on the wheels. Any ideas? Its a 93 Jap spec TT with around 130km on the clock. npotts
Hi Jamie Have you checked the rear brake pads? When low, a metal strip scraps on the disc to remind you to replace the pads - this is the first thing I would check. Is the disc rubbing on the hub? Might be worth taking the wheel off and disc and seeing if there are any 'worn' marks on the hub or disc pointing to some chaffing of some sort... Im sure someone else will offer some other advice. Im far from technical on these issues.... Nick

Paul
Check Handbrake shoes/spring..... I've had similar sympthoms. I had problems with the retaining clip on the shoes hitting the back of the drum. Paul
HunterJ
Great guys, thanks for the pointers. Its in for an MOT on Thursday I'll get the garage to have a look - the nuts are on too tight, I couldn't get them off by hand! TLicense
Errr were you dragging a chain? No, oh, OK. Well does it go away when you put your foot on the brake or if you apply the handbrake when travelling slowly?
HunterJ
Spot on with the handbrake suggestion - whilst driving (very slowly) I gently pulled the handbrake - the noise dissappeared, and it hasn't come back (yet;)) Jamie
