SuperSupra
Just had my MOT so now it's time for de-cat mod! What sort of difference have people who have had it done noticed? Is it worth the money? Any increase in noise (usually is from what i've heard!) Any info would be greatly appreciated, I'm planning on asking Chris (aka Colin/Coleen) Wilson for the deed, I believe he quoted me £300. SuperSupra
I personally think we should all make a vow to call him Coleen on every post from now on. He did say he'd answer to anything!

Dash Rendar
I'll be doing this soon too. Don't forget the sparks, restrictor ring, fuel pump change and other necessary changes that you may have to make for this.
CardiffSupra
rough cost anyone?
RedM
Isn't all this covered in the FAQ section and umpteen times elsewhere using the SEARCH option?
Steve
Decat pipes £300, Fuel pump £90, Spark plugs NGK £12, Restrictor Ring £20ish and i would have a boost gauge to keep an eye on the boost.

Steve
Also if your SMIC is knackered its a good idea to change that to. Not good running increased boost on a knackered one
michael parker
And a fuel cut defender (FCD) in case you hit fuel cut.
Steve
And a fuel cut defender (FCD) in case you hit fuel cut. Yeah missed that.
Dash Rendar
Anyway to tell if you've already got FCD? Other than do the decat and then go WOT until the Supe has a fit?
Steve
Look in the passenger footwell behind the plastic cover where the ECU is. Usually sits behind there. But you have to experience fuel cut. Its fun.........not

If you do the full decat it will be loud, louder than a TT car. Not so bad if you have an exhaust that you can fit a baffle in the end if you want it quieter. When mine was a TT it passed an MOT with the decat, only just mind. He had to try it three times and warm it up but it still went through. Thats no guarantee that yours will though. The boost will go up considerably giving you more power, the turbo's will spool up much quicker . It will feel much more responsive! Most cars will fail the MOT without the catalysts but there are exceptions. Generally you need to fit just the one catalyst to get it to pass the MOT, the second one is a liitle easier to fit than the first. It will be noiser , better to have an exhaust where you can fit a baffle if you like to make it a little quieter. It's nice to have the increased performance but you soon get used to it!
