Jaycm
Hello All, Wonder if you guy's can help me, I have had a Spec 2+ clutch with OEM flywheel fitted for over a year now and its been bugging me ever since I've had it fitted tbh. To begin with the clutch was fine, it gripped fine and I had zero chatter. Following getting 2.5/3k miles under it's belt it began to chatter but to the point it sounded like a bolt was rattling about. Still grips absolutely fine and this chatter does goes away after a certain rpm is reached. Dip the clutch the chatter goes away and much louder when hot. Just wanted some advice that's all is this normal/to be expected or should I be taking it back for the garage to inspect further.
Swampy442
Sure its not the gearbox?
Jaycm
Do you have any suggestions for checking the gearbox? Gear selection is fine in all gears
Swampy442
Well my view is when you push the pedal down, disengage the gearbox the noise stops. Maybe theres a bearing going somewhere? Its always hard to diagnose a noise on the internet. What gearbox is it?
Jaycm
Totally understand bud, it’s the v160 gearbox
Jaycm
A friend who’s been around aftermarket clutch’s advised me its all chatter with the Spec which disappoints me for the fact I fitted the oem dual mass fly to try tone that down. If I drive the car further up the rpm as in change to 4th (any gear) a little higher up the rpm I don’t get this chatter (60/80% less), it’s only when I make the clutch/car pull through lower down the rpm range where I probs should have down shifted to keep rpm up (lazy). I may still take it to the garage just to give it the once over though as say gearbox and car drive fine no issues on that front.
Swampy442
Id still get it inspected by the garage just in case something has broken, fingers etc. Ive got an RPS on my V160 and its fine, but the gearboxes are always a bit agricultural

If you load the engine up at sub 2000rpm in a high gear you will hear the clutch rattle, this is super common on all aftermarket clutches. Some louder than others but they will all do it. This isnt a modern diesel, choose the correct gear for the speed you are going. Not that difficult to do.
